The Race

An even field lines up for the running of the Group 3 Aurie's Star at down the straight at Flemington this week with five on 9 runners in single digit odds. Master trainer Darren Weir as always has a strong hand in the feature race with a three-pronged attack which includes Voodoo Lad, Camdus and Man from Uncle while Team Godolphin will unveil Home of the Brave for the gelding's first racing outing on Australian soil. The all-powerful Hayes & Dabernig yard will unleash Poetic Dream for a first up tilt and has been well supported in early betting.

Race Speed

Our likely leaders will come from the outside gates through Chamois Road and Poetic Dream. They could head to the far side rail, but regardless they should both push forward. Voodoo Lad should be able to get a nice run behind them. Toward the inside, I Am a Star could either take up the running or be very prominent depending on what the outside runners do. More fancied runners Brave Song and Home of the Brave will likely be ridden cold and look for a big finish.

Key Runners

1. Home of the Brave ($4.00)
Overseas import which always makes it hard to line up the form lines. Will be the geldings’ first Australian start, but he has looked super in jump-outs and has a terrific first up record (6-4-1). Great overseas form – watch the market.

2. Voodoo Lad ($3.90)
Super horse. Failed twice at G1 level to begin the prep but had genuine excuses in both races. Was then freshened and impressed winning by 1.5L and had he not run into superstar Vega Magic last start would have won again. Will get a great run in transit and will be finishing strong.

5. I Am a Star ($10.00)
In this race last year finished 4th to Hey Doc when first up. After that run was in some hot races (G1 Memsie & G1 Toorak) and didn’t make much of an impression. Looks to get a relatively easy lead and on best form could easily pinch this.

Bluey’s Tip

2. Voodoo Lad ($3.90)
Looks to be a tough race with so many unknowns, particularly Home of the Brave who is the x-factor who could turn up and blow them away. I’m sticking with the proven Voodoo Lad who is flying at the moment and looks to get a great run in transit. Look for him to be finishing off late.
