- HERMAN HESSE ($3.10)
Herman Hesse went up a short favourite last start in the Christmas Cup, but was unable to get the job done, with the in-form Mightybeel proving too strong late. Herman Hesse did have excuses there however, with McEvoy setting an electric pace up front on a day where it was tough for leaders due to weather. He’s been given a few weeks off since that run & I’m tipping he will be ready to fire here.
FLEMINGTON RACE 7 – 13:45 AEDT
- SMOKING ROMANS ($2.25)
Smoking Roman looks the one to beat here for the Maher/Eustace stable. The gelding kicked off his prep way back in February, but thanks to regular freshens and well spaced runs, he has been able to hold a high level of form, with some of his wins coming a whopping eight months apart. He was in top form last start in the Pakenham cup after being given a freshen & will be looking to continue on his winning ways. With Jamie Kah booked again, he looks very hard to beat here.
FLEMINGTON RACE 8 – 14:20 AEDT
- LIGHTHOUSE ($2.35)
Another shortie here in Lighthouse, but clearly looks the one beat after an imperious start to her prep, which has consisted of three consecutive wins. In her most recent run, she scored a strong win over the talented Bermadez - who lines up as a hot favourite a few races prior to this. She gets in with just 54kg here and should be able to find a position just behind the leading group. Should prove too good.

FLEMINGTON RACE 3 – 11:35 AEDT
- COMANCHE BRAVE ($12.00)
Fairly open field here and looks to be a bit of value with last start winner Comanche Brave, out of the Sandhu yard. The gelding saluted first up over 1500m at BM64 grade as a $20 shot, settling in fifth position and taking over at the 800m mark. He takes a slight step up in grade here but should handle it. No issues with the distance & he drops a couple of kilos with the Richards claim.
