The VRC Sprint Classic is held down the ‘straight six’ over 1200 metres and has drawn a field of proven Group One horses for the 2018 renewal. Redzel returns to defend her crown while Irish trainer Aiden O’Brien has brought a quartet of horses to contest the race.

Race Speed

Both Redzel and Invincible Star will look to go forward as they have done against each other in previous starts. Jungle Cat and Pierata will look to settle just behind the leading pair. After four days of racing over the span of seven days, it would be safe to assume the jockeys look for firmer ground on the grandstand rail.

Key Runners

  1. Redzel ($4.80)

Has won two of three this preparation including The Everest over this distance back in October. Has been freshened four weeks on the back of that but looks fit on assessment of recent trial win. Won this race last year and has the in-form Kerrin McEvoy on board who will look to take her forward and set a comfortable tempo for the Peter and Paul Snowden gelding.

  1. Brave Smash ($14)

A victor in the Manikato Stakes over the same distance last start and looks set to perform strongly again. Has won or placed in all runs this Spring bar The Everest where he didn’t handle the track conditions however came through the race strongly to win at Moonee Valley.

  1. Redkirk Warrior ($12)

Is first up here having been spelled after a disappointing international foray to Great Britain. Loves this track with four wins coming from five starts including a first up victory over Redzel in the Lightning Stakes (1000 metres) in February of this year.

  1. Spright ($41.00)

At long odds but has been very impressive in previous two runs, coming home strongly in both the Moir and Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley against the same horses he will face on Saturday. Has one start for one victory down the straight at Flemington and if given clear air, could be right in the finish.

Race Selection

  1. Brave Smash ($14)

Is a proven Group One performer and the price offered for her is very attractive coming off a strong last start win in the Manikato Stakes. Has been doing his best work late suggesting she is rock hard fit and with the Darren Weir polish is ready to
