2018 AFL Round 6 Betting Tips & Preview

Western Bulldogs v Carlton Blues

Friday, April 27 7:50pm, Etihad Stadium

Friday night footy in Round 6 starts at Etihad Stadium as the Bulldogs play the Blues. I'm not sure how these two sides got a Friday night matchup but anyway. Last week, the Bulldogs were smashed by the Dockers last round 108-54 and the Blues showed some fight against the Eagles in a 79-69 loss. So I really like the unders in this one. The last 3 meetings have been low scoring and both sides are struggling for points this season.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Bulldogs are 1-2 at Etihad Stadium. This season, the Blues hold a 0-1 record at Etihad Stadium. They lost against the Suns by 34 points.

Head to Head Record

The Bulldogs have a 2-0 record since the 2016 season. In the last meeting, which was played at the MCG, the Bulldogs defeated the Blues by 20 points.

Best Bet

Under 171.5 points ($1.80)

Geelong Cats v Sydney Swans

Saturday, April 28 1:45pm, Kardinia Park

This matchup sees the 3-2 Cats hosting the 3-2 Swans at Kardinia Park on Saturday afternoon. Last round, the Cats comfortably beat the Power by 34 points and the Swans just lost against the Crows by 10 points on Friday. They've now lost Buddy Franklin and Hannebery, so this will be a tough ask in Geelong. They do have a good record in Geelong but the loss of Franklin really hurts their ability to score points. So I'm getting on the Cats at the line.

Stadium Record

This season, the Cats hold a 1-0 record at Kardinia Park. Which they won against the Saints by 47 points.

Head to Head Record

The Swans have a 3-1 record since the 2016 season. The Swans beat the Cats 107-61 at Kardinia Park.

Best Bet

Cats -17.5 $1.90

North Melbourne Kangaroos v Port Adelaide Power

Saturday, April 28 2:10pm, Etihad Stadium

Round 6 continues as the Kangaroos play the Power at Etihad Stadium. The Kangaroos accounted for the Hawks last week by 28 points and looked impressive in the first half. So I think they can definitely challenge the Power. The Power were easily beat by the Cats 84-50 last week. They also lost at Etihad just a few weeks ago against the poor Bombers. So I'm getting on the Kangaroos in another upset.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Kangaroos hold a 2-0 record at Etihad Stadium. This season, the Power hold a 0-1 record at Etihad Stadium. They lost against the Bombers by 22 points.

Head to Head Record

The Power have a 2-0 record since the 2016 season. The Power easily won the last match by 70 points at the Adelaide Oval.

Best Bet

Kangaroos WIN $2.65

GWS Giants v Brisbane Lions

Saturday, April 28 4:35pm, Spotless Stadium

The Giants play host to the Lions at Spotless Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Looking at the two sides, the Giants have been more consistent and should be confident at home. Last round, the Giants would have been disappointed with a draw against the Saints. Meanwhile the Lions only just lost against the Suns by 5 points. But they'll likely struggle to score enough points against the Giants. GWS has scored 146 in back to back matches against them and have easily won by 40+.

Stadium Record

Since last season, the Giants are 7-1 (1 draw) at Spotless Stadium. The Lions haven't played at Spotless Stadium since Round 10, 2015 and they lost that match by 30 points versus the Giants.

Head to Head Record

The Giants have a 2-0 record since the 2016 season.

Best Bet

Giants 40+ $1.90

Hawthorn Hawks v St Kilda Saints

Saturday, April 28 7:25pm, University of Tasmania

This matchup sees the 3-2 Hawks hosting the 1-3 (1 draw) Saints in Tasmania on Saturday night. The Saints smashed the Hawks at this venue last season 130-55 so they should be confident. Especially after they drew with the Giants last week. The Hawks were easily defeated by the Kangaroos 98-70 and have a few injury/suspension concerns. So the Saints are good value at the line.

Stadium Record

The Hawks are 2-1 (1 draw) at this venue and the Saints are 1-0 since last season.

Head to Head Record

The two teams are tied with a 1-1 record since the 2016 season. The Saints smashed the Hawks 130-55 in the last meeting.

Best Bet

Saints +20.5 $1.90

Adelaide Crows v Gold Coast Suns

Saturday, April 28 7:40pm, Adelaide Oval

Round 6 continues as the Crows play the Suns at the Adelaide Oval. Both sides are looking for win number 4 in this match so the stakes are high. Last round, the Crows only just beat the Swans by 10 points and the Suns just beat the Lions 76-71. Gold Coast has never won against the Crows but I don't see them getting smashed by 40+ points. Adelaide has a few injuries and haven't been overly impressive in the forward line this season. So I'll back the Suns to beat the underdog line.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Crows are 1-1 at the Adelaide Oval. The last matchup at the venue was a 125-80 win for the Crows.

Head to Head Record

The Crows have a 2-0 record since the 2016 season.

Best Bet

Suns +44.5 $1.90

Essendon Bombers v Melbourne Demons

Sunday, April 29 1:10pm, Etihad Stadium

This matchup will see the Bombers hosting the Demons at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Both sides looked terrible last week so this probably won't be a great match to watch. The Bombers were flogged by the Magpies last week 101-52 and the Demons were equally as bad against the Tigers. So I think the under total is usually a good bet when two teams are struggling. The under is also 6-1 in this matchup.

Stadium Record

This season, the Bombers are 2-1 at Etihad Stadium. Since last season, the Demons hold a 3-1 record at Etihad Stadium.

Head to Head Record

The two teams are tied with a 1-1 record since the 2016 season. In the last meeting, which was played at Etihad Stadium, the Demons defeated the Bombers by 38 points.

Best Bet

Under 183.5 Total Points ($1.90)

Collingwood Magpies v Richmond Tigers

Sunday, April 29 3:20pm, MCG

This should be the match of the round as the in-form Magpies meet the Tigers at the MCG. Both sides were impressive last round and the shorter week should make this equally as close. The recent meetings have been close so I do like the 1-39 margin for value. The Pies have finally fixed their forward line and the midfield is on fire. So they should be able to match the Tigers around the stoppages. But I do think the Tigers defence is a lot better, led by Alex Rance, and they should just win this by a 1-39 margin. I also like the Magpies at the line.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Magpies are 2-2 at the MCG. Also in 2018, the Tigers are 4-0 at the MCG.

Head to Head Record

The Tigers have a 2-1 record since the 2016 season. The Tigers beat the Magpies 99-80 at the MCG.

Best Bet

Tigers 1-39 $2.20

Fremantle Dockers v West Coast Eagles

Sunday, April 29 4:40pm, Optus Stadium

The Western Derby continues this week when the Dockers face off against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon footy. This is the first Derby at the new stadium and it should be awesome to watch. Both sides are in great form so this should be one of the closest Derbies in a while as well. The Eagles have dominated the Derby over the last few years as a result. They have the Dockers covered in the forward line, especially with the return of Josh Kennedy. They also have a strong defence with Hurn and McGovern in form. So I'm just going for the Eagles in a close win.

Stadium Record

This season, the Dockers are 3-0 at Optus Stadium. In 2018, the Eagles hold a 2-1 record at Optus Stadium.

Head to Head Record

The Eagles have a 4-0 record since the 2016 season. The Eagles beat the Dockers 74-44 at Subiaco in the last meeting.

Best Bet

Eagles 1-39 $2.15
