Portugal will take on Germany in another headline Group F game, a fixture historically befitting for a match much later in the tournament.
The Portuguese and Germans were drawn alongside France and Hungary in the rightfully named ‘Group of Death’.
Die Mannschaft are clearly in need of a win to progress to the knockout stage after they were beaten 1-0 by France in their opening game. Portugal, on the other hand, started off their tournament with an impressive 3-0 win over Hungary, where star man Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace.
This should be a tight affair with both teams well drilled in defence and could genuinely go either way. What Germany lack in the final third, they more than make up for in midfield with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan.
As for Portugal, they are embarrassed with attacking talent in Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva.
Players to Watch
Ruben Dias: The Portuguese centre-half was imperious in his first season with Manchester City. He will be need to play an imperative role to ensure that Portugal get a result.
Ilkay Gundogan: Like his club teammate, Dias, Gundogan was fantastic in Manchester City’s title-winning season. The centre-midfielder will need to take on more attacking responsibility to fill the void of Germany’s obvious deficiencies up front. He has proved at club level that he can do that.
