Euro 2020: Denmark vs Belgium – 18th June @2am
Denmark’s tournament hopes are hanging by a thread and they have the extremely difficult task of facing tournament heavyweights Belgium in this crucial game at 2am Friday morning.
The Danes had to return to the pitch less than 2 hours after their superstar Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest, eventually losing to Finland 1-0 in their tournament opener.
On the contrary, Belgium are flying. They swept aside Russia 3-0 in St Petersburg and now could welcome back experienced midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Axel Witsel.
In the absence of their talisman Eriksen - Denmark will be relying on the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Kasper Schmeichel, Andreas Christensen and heroic captain Simon Kjaer, who helped save Eriksen’s life - to galvanise an understandably shocked Danish side.
Players to Watch
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: In the absence of Eriksen, The Tottenham midfielder will have to be the man to dictate Denmark’s tempo with and without the ball. More known for his defensive qualities, Hojbjerg showed during his last Premier League campaign that he can play a defence-splitting pass and pop up with the odd goal.
Romelu Lukaku: As he so often does for his country, the Inter Milan striker stepped up on the big occasion, scoring a brace against Russia in Belgium’s opening game. Lukaku is in the prime of his career and is a serious Golden Boot contender for this tournament. He’s every chance of adding to his tally here.
