Stradbroke Handicap Press Release

Press Release - 9th May 2017

Mackintosh has been the big shortener in Stradbroke betting with the Chris Waller trained gelding shortening from $12 to $7.50 with Bluebet after drawing barrier 1.

Bluebet CEO Michael Sullivan said there had been support for a number of runners away from favourite Clearly Innocent after last start Eagle Farm winner drew barrier 20.

“Clearly Innocent has been completely friendless in betting drifting from $3.50 to $4.80 since the draw and punters still don’t want to back him,” Sullivan said.

“Mackintosh has clearly been the best backed but there has also been money at odds for iron horse Burning Front ($21 to $17) and In Her Time ($21 to $18).”

Sullivan said while the Stradbroke favourite was on the nose with punters, it certainly wasn’t the case in the J.J. Atkins with Kiwi filly Melody Belle very popular.

“Melody Belle has been backed from $2.30 to $2.10 with Bluebet and she is still proving popular with punters,” he said.

“There has been some money for Taking Aim and Tangled but punters really have zeroed in on Melody Belle.”

Sullivan said Ruthven had been the best backed in the Derby shortening from $6.0 to $5.00 since the draw.
