2024 NFL Super Bowl LIX Betting Predictions
Super Bowl LIX features the Kansas City Chiefs looking to edge themselves into the history books with a 3rd straight Super Bowl victory. But can the Eagles avenge their 38-35 Super Bowl loss against the Chiefs in 2023? Here is a betting preview of the massive game in New Orleans.
Kansas City Chiefs (17-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (17-3)
The Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl once again, making their third straight appearance and their fifth in the last six years after a dramatic 32-29 win over the Bills. Kansas City continues to prove why they are the team to beat, with Patrick Mahomes leading the way as one of the most dominant quarterbacks in the league.
In the AFC Championship, Mahomes threw for 245 yards and a touchdown while also making plays with his legs, rushing for 43 yards and adding two more scores on the ground. Running back Kareem Hunt contributed 64 rushing yards and a touchdown, while rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy made a big impact with six catches for 85 yards and a score.
Mahomes has been the steady force behind their success this season, throwing for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns this season. His favourite target, Travis Kelce, led the team with 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns, but was kept to just 2 catches against the Bills. On the ground, Hunt has been effective, racking up 728 rushing yards and seven touchdowns throughout the season. He did his job nicely in the win over the Bills.
Offensively, the Chiefs have been solid but not as explosive as in past years, averaging 22.6 points per game, which ranks 15th in the league. However, their defence has stepped up in a big way, allowing just 19.2 points per game — good for fourth-best in the NFL. The pass defence has been middle of the pack, giving up 218 yards per game (18th), but their run defence has been a strength, allowing just 101 rushing yards per game (8th).
As they prepare to face the Eagles in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs will look to lean on their experience, elite quarterback play and strong defence to bring home another Lombardi Trophy. With Mahomes and Andy Reid at the helm and an experienced roster in big games, Kansas City is primed to continue their dynasty.
The Eagles are flying high heading into the Super Bowl after completely dismantling the Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship. Jalen Hurts was solid through the air with 246 passing yards and a touchdown, but it was the ground game that stole the show. Saquon Barkley was unstoppable, racking up 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Hurts added three rushing scores of his own. A.J. Brown was a big-play threat, hauling in six catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Now sitting at 17-3 on the season and riding a five-game win streak, the Eagles have been one of the most dominant teams in the league. They finished first in the NFC East and have built their success on a lethal rushing attack and a shutdown defence. Hurts has been efficient, throwing for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns, while Brown has been his go-to weapon, leading the team with 1,079 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The real star, though, has been Barkley, who has put up an insane 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns this season, making Philly’s ground game one of the most dangerous in the league.
The Eagles are putting up 27.2 points per game (7th), and their defence has been even better, allowing just 17.8 points per game (2nd). They’ve got the best pass defence in the league, giving up only 174 yards per game through the air. Their run defence is solid too, ranking 10th while allowing 104 yards per game.
As they get ready to face the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the Eagles have all the momentum. With Hurts playing at a high level, Barkley running wild, and a defence that can shut down just about anyone, Philly has a real shot at taking home the Lombardi Trophy this time. This team is built to win and they won't be backing down from the challenge.
Head to Head Record
In the last 5, the Chiefs are 4-1 since 2013. They met in the Super Bowl a few years ago and the Chiefs won a classic, 38-35. The Eagles got revenge in the next season, winning 21-17.
Best Bet
The Eagles have been on fire, winning five straight and absolutely dominating in the NFC Championship. Their elite rushing attack, led by Saquon Barkley’s 2,000-yard season, is a nightmare for defences. Jalen Hurts’ ability to make plays with both his arm and legs gives them an added edge. Defensively, Philly has the best pass defence in the league, which could cause problems for Mahomes and the Chiefs’ passing game. Meanwhile, Kansas City’s offence has been solid but not as explosive as in past years, ranking just 15th in points per game. The Chiefs’ defence is strong, but they haven’t faced a rushing attack like this all season. I think the Eagles can get some revenge from the Super Bowl LVII defeat against the Chiefs a couple of years ago and get the job done.
Philadelphia Eagles Win = $2.05
Same Game Multi
I like the Over between these two teams. The last Super Bowl matchup totalled 73 pts and not much has changed. The Over is also 5-2 when the Eagles play the Chiefs. It's also hard to see Jalen Hurts not finding the endzone on the ground. He comes off 3 rushing TDs last game and a lot of the defensive focus will be on Saquon Barkley instead.
Philadelphia Eagles Win / Over 49.5 pts / Jalen Hurts anytime TD = $5.25
