2023 NFL Week 8 Betting Predictions
Week 8 of the NFL season starts in Buffalo with a huge clash between the Bills and Bucs on Friday morning.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) at Buffalo Bills (4-3)
The Bucs are in a decent position at 3-3 on the season but they'll be keen to end a 2-game losing streak. Playing on the road shouldn't be much of an issue as they've won 2 games away from Tampa Bay already this season with wins over the Vikings and Saints. They also get Buffalo at a good time after a loss. The key for Tampa in this matchup will be their defence that has only allowed 17 points per game and containing the Bills passing offence. Tampa are bottom 5 in the NFL for passing yards allowed and will face a challenge against the likes of Diggs and Davis.
The Bills are coming off a disappointing performance against the Patriots in New England after a 29-25 defeat. So they'll be eager to bounce back on their home turf in this primetime game. They're still averaging 28 points per game, which ranks them 3rd in the NFL. But they have struggled in the last 3 weeks. However, they do get a good matchup against the Bucs mediocre secondary. So Josh Allen will be looking to take advantage with his arm.
Buffalo's defence should be able to bounce back against a Bucs side that hasn't scored over 13 pts in their last 2 games. Meanwhile, the Bucs are 8-2 against the Under on the road and 6-1 at any venue.
Stadium Record
Buffalo are 15-3 in their last 18 home games. Tampa are 0-2 at this venue.
Head to Head Record
Since 2000, the Bucs are 4-2 in the 6 meetings.
Best Bet
Chicago Bears (2-5) at Los Angeles Chargers (2-4)
The Bears are coming off a surprising upset over the Raiders 30-12 last week. Without starting QB Justin Fields, Tyson Bagent got the victory in his first NFL start. But it was all about D'Onta Foreman as he racked 3 total touchdowns and 120 all-purpose yards. The Chargers are a decent team against the run so the Bears will need to attack them through the air. Their defence ranks dead last in the NFL for passing yards allowed and they're also giving up 25 points per game.
The Chargers have lost back-to-back games against the Cowboys 20-17 and Chiefs 31-17. With a 2-4 record, the Chargers face a must-win game against the Bears and they'll be hoping to turn things around. It starts with their defence that has struggled to contain passing attacks, but it should be a bit easier against a rookie QB. Meanwhile, their offence has struggled to replace Mike Williams so they need the Herbert/Allen combination to dominate the Bears defence. Chicago is also a poor team against the pass as they rank 29th in the NFL for passing yards allowed so that should help the Chargers.
Chicago has a good record against the Chargers and they should be confident after last week's upset. They're 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the Chargers are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7.
Stadium Record
Los Angeles has won 4 of their last 6 at home. Chicago is yet to play at this venue.
Head to Head Record
The Bears are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
Best Bet
Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) at Detroit Lions (5-2)
The Raiders 2 game winning streak ended last week as they fell to the Bears 30-12. With Jimmy Garoppolo out with injury, they started Brian Hoyer and he struggled with 2 interceptions and was later replaced by O'Connell. However, the Raiders are expecting Garoppolo to start in this crucial matchup. They face a tough challenge against the Lions 2nd ranked defence against the run. So the Raiders will need to get the ball into the hands of Davante Adams and attack the Lions defence through the air.
The Lions struggled for the first time this season as they were blown out by the Ravens 38-6 last week. However, that should give them plenty of motivation for this home game against the Raiders. The positive out of last week was that Amon-Ra St. Brown continued his form with 102 receiving yards and Gibbs showed glimpses in the running game with 11 carries for 68 yards. They're still without David Montgomery so Gibbs will get the start against the Raiders as well.
Expecting a high-scoring game in this one as the Lions are 9-4 against the Over at home and just gave up 38 pts. The Raiders struggled defensively last week as well but should be able to score more points with Garoppolo under centre.
Stadium Record
Detroit are 5-1 in their last 6 at home. Las Vegas are 0-2 since 2003.
Head to Head Record
The Lions are 4-2 in the last 6 meetings.
