NFL Week 5 Tips & Preview

BlueBet previews the NFL Week 5 action below. Read on for our best bets per game and an overview of the feature games this week.

New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Date: Friday 10:25 am. Venue: Tampa
Odds: Buccaneers $2.94, Patriots $1.43

The Buccaneers host the Patriots on Friday at Tampa. We'll provide a betting preview of the game below.

Form Guide:

The Patriots lost on the final play last week as the Panthers nailed a late field goal. The defence is becoming a real issue for New England as they've allowed 33 points in two straight games. But Tom Brady and his offence are still scoring 32 points per game and they'll be fired up after a 2-2 start.

Tampa secured a 2 point win over the Giants and they're 2-1 on the season. They've won both games at home and they're 6-0 at home dating back to last season. But their defence will be tested against Brady.

Head to Head Record:

The two sides last met in 2013 and the Patriots won 23-3 at home. The Patriots are 3-0 against them since 2005 and they've outscored them 86-10. They also haven't played in Tampa since 1997.

Point Spread:

The Patriots are 5 point favourites for this Friday game and they're 8-1-1 ATS on the road. In their only road game this season, they beat the Saints 36-20 and covered the line. The Bucs are 6-3-1 ATS at home since last season. But the Patriots are 3-0 ATS after a loss and we're backing them to win by over 5 points.Best bet: Patriots -5 ($1.92)

Total Points:

This should be another high scoring contest for the Patriots. They're 5-0 against the over total of 54.5 points and their defence is struggling. The Bucs are averaging 23.7 ppg and they should take advantage of the Pats weak defence. So we would back the over 54.5 points.Best bet: Over 54.5 points ($1.89)

Tip:

Patriots ($1.43)
Based on the Patriots point spread record, they should rebound against the Buccaneers on the road. Brady will be hard to stop and the Patriots rarely drop two games a row.

Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans

Date: Monday 10:30 am. Venue: Houston
Odds: Texans $2.00, Chiefs $1.85
The Texans host the Chiefs on Monday at Houston. We'll provide a betting preview of the game below.

Form Guide:

The Texans blew out the Titans last week with a massive total of 57 points. They've scored 90 points in the last two weeks and Watson is starting to build confidence under centre.

Kansas City are the last undefeated team left as they sit at 4-0. They beat the Redskins at home by 9 points last week and they travel to Houston for a chance at 5-0.

Head to Head Record:

In the head to head, the Chiefs lead 3-2 since 2010. They've played in Houston in three straight games and Houston took the last contest 19-12.

Point Spread:

The spread is expecting a close game as the Chiefs are just favourites by 1.5 points. They have covered this line in 7 of their last 10 road games. But the Texans are 9-2 ATS at home. So we're backing the Texans at +1.5.Best bet: Texans +1.5 ($1.91)

Total Points:

The Texans are 2-0 against the over total and we're expecting another high scoring game. The Chiefs are 3-1 against the over total as well. They average 30.5 ppg and the Texans are averaging 27.5 ppg. So we would back the overs at 46.5.Best bet: Over 46.5 points ($1.91)

Tip:

Texans ($2.00)
This is a tough game to pick and will likely come down to the last few minutes. In the NFL, it's tough to stay undefeated and the Texans have both sides of the football covered. So we're backing the Texans at home to get past the Chiefs.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

Date: Tuesday 10:30 am. Venue: Chicago

The Bears host the Vikings on Tuesday at Chicago. We'll provide a betting preview of the game below.

Form Guide:

Chicago were woeful on Friday as the Packers thrashed them by 21 points. But they're a much better side at home and the extra rest should help against the Vikings. They beat the Steelers at home in Week 3 and almost upset the Falcons in Week 1.

The Vikings are 2-2 and this is an important game for their NFC North chances. They lost by 7 points against the Lions at home last week and they lost by 17 points in their last road game.

Head to Head Record:

The Bears are 8-6 against the Vikings since 2010. They also have a 6-1 record at Chicago and they beat them by 10 points in the last meeting here (20-10).

Tip:

Vikings WIN
Even though the Bears have a great home record against the Vikings, this game will be different. They're starting rookie Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Vikings defence will likely take advantage. They're ranked 3rd in the NFL for rush yards allowed, which means Trubisky won't be able to lean on the run. So we're backing the Vikings to go 3-2.
