2022 NFL Week 16 Betting Predictions

Week 16 of the NFL season begins in New York as the Jets and Jaguars battle to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8) at New York Jets (7-7)

The Jags are looking for a 3rd straight victory when they head to New York on Friday. They're coming off a huge win over the Cowboys at home, 40-34 in OT. Despite trailing 27-10, Trevor Lawrence got the Jags back into the game and in Overtime, their defence walked off on an interception touchdown. QB Lawrence is currently on a hot streak with 12 touchdown passes in his last 4 games and just 1 interception. So his confidence is sky-high at the moment and the Jaguars can still make the playoffs if they win their last 3 games.

The Jets will be desperate to end a 3-game losing streak as their playoff hopes are on the line. Last week, they went down to the Lions 20-17 and that continued the trend of close losses for this team. They have Zach Wilson back at QB and their offence has been fairly mediocre. However, the Jags do give up points so they'll be hoping the likes of Garrett Wilson can make big plays. The other key will be the Jets defence, which has been much improved this season. They're giving up just 18 points per game and will need to stop the influence of Lawrence to win this clash.

The head-to-head odds are close between these two teams and rain is expected in New York as well. That should mean a low-scoring affair. The Jets are 7-2 against the Under in their last 9 and 5-2 when they're playing at home.

Stadium Record

New York has lost 17 of their 24 home games. Jacksonville are just 1-4 at this venue against the Jets.

Head to Head Record

The two sides met last season and the Jets won at home 26-21. In the last 10, the head-to-head is 5-5.

Best Bet

Under 37.5 = $1.80

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-8) at Arizona Cardinals (4-10)

The Bucs are coming off back-to-back losses against the 49ers and Bengals. However, due to the terrible NFC South, they're still in the playoffs at this point. This is definitely a winnable game as they face an injury-riddled Cardinals team. Tom Brady tossed 3 touchdowns last week but turnovers hurt them in the end with 2 interceptions / 2 fumbles lost. So he'll look to clean it up against the Cards. The Bucs offence should enjoy a favourable matchup as the Cardinals are giving up a league-worst 26 points per game. Meanwhile, the Bucs defence should be able to place pressure on a 3rd string QB.

The 4-10 Cardinals are just playing for pride at the moment and will look to end a 4-game losing streak. However, they're down to their 3rd string QB as Murray did his ACL and McCoy is out with a concussion. They've scored just 28 pts in their last 2 games so it's hard to see that improving against a decent Bucs defence. Arizona also have a woeful record in home games at the moment, winning just 1 of their last 13.

It's been tough going for the Bucs and Brady this season but this feels like a game where they can unleash some frustration. The Cards likely won't trouble them with a 3rd string QB and a leaky defence. Bucs to cover and get some winning momentum.

Stadium Record

Arizona has lost 12 of their last 13 at home. Tampa Bay holds a poor 1-4 record at this venue.

Head to Head Record

The last meeting was back in 2019 when the Bucs beat the Cards 30-27. Since 1996, the Cardinals lead 5-4.

Best Bet

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -7.5 = $1.92

Los Angeles Chargers (8-6) at Indianapolis Colts (4-9-1)

The Chargers have boosted their playoff hopes with wins over the Titans and Dolphins in the last 2 weeks. They have a favourable schedule in the last 3 weeks so the Chargers should be confident they can keep it going. Last week, they beat the Titans at home on a last-second field goal. QB Justin Herbert didn't have his best game with 0 touchdowns / 2 interceptions. But he gets a great matchup against the Colts secondary that got burnt by the Vikings last week. He also has Keenan Allen and Mike Williams back on the field as they've both struggling with injuries this season. While on defence, the Chargers will take a lot of confidence in keeping the Titans to just 14 pts.

The Colts slumped to a 4th straight loss last week as they let a 33-0 lead slip away against the Vikings in Minnesota. They've now lost key RB Jonathan Taylor for the season and that pretty much sums up their season. They're also making a change at QB as Nick Foles will start over Matt Ryan. So it'll be interesting to see if he can improve the Colts lacklustre offence that's scoring just 17 points per game on average. While on defence, the Colts got plenty of turnovers last week and will look to place the same pressure on Herbert.

Los Angeles simply have more to play for in this matchup as they battle for a higher position in the AFC playoff race. They have an excellent record in Indy at 12-2 ATS and have covered in 5 of their last 7 road games. Herbert should be able to dominate the Colts defence and that should lead the Chargers to a comfortable win.

Stadium Record

Indianapolis has lost 4 of their last 5 at home. Los Angeles has a strong 12-2 ATS record on the road against the Colts.

Head to Head Record

Since 2004, the Chargers are 7-3 in the 10 meetings.

Best Bet

Los Angeles Chargers -3.5 = $1.80
