NBA Tips & Betting Preview | Thursday 19 January

Atlanta Hawks (22-22) at Dallas Mavericks (24-21)

The Hawks are looking for a 4th straight win when they head to Dallas on Thursday. In their latest win on Tuesday, they beat the Heat by 8 pts and the Young/Murray combination was the key. The Hawks dynamic duo combined by 52 pts and as a team, they shot 59% from the field in the 121-113 result. Another positive was the return of Clint Capela from injury and he played 20 mins with 12 pts / 3 blocks. The Hawks have also won 3 straight on the road and will head to Dallas with confidence.

The Mavs will be looking forward to this home stand after struggling on their recent road trip. They lost back-to-back games against the Trail Blazers by 17 pts in each contest. But injuries have been the real story. Luka Doncic missed their latest loss against Portland and will be questionable for this one. They're already without Hardaway Jr. and Kleber so their depth is getting tested at the moment.

If Doncic misses this one, the Hawks will be favourites and should win. However, the Under does look like the better trend. It's 6-2 in this matchup and the Hawks are trending against the Under on the road at 4-1 in their last 5.

Stadium Record

Dallas hold a 4-1 record in their last 5 home games. Atlanta has lost 4 of their last 5 in Dallas.

Head to Head Record

Since 2017, the head-to-head is locked at 5-5. They met at this venue last February and the Mavs won 103-94.

Best Bet

Under 232.5 = $1.91

Cleveland Cavaliers (28-17) at Memphis Grizzlies (30-13)

The Cavs are coming off a nice 10 pt win over the Pelicans on Tuesday at home. Darius Garland was the standout for the Cavs as he finished with 30 pts and Allen provided the support role with 24 pts. They now head onto the road for another challenging matchup with the hot Grizz. In lineup news, the status of Donovan Mitchell will need to be monitored as he's doubtful to play after suffering a groin injury against the Pels. So if he can't play, that will open up playing time for the likes of LeVert, Osman and Okoro.

The Grizzlies made it 10 straight wins with a statement win over the Suns on Tuesday. They thrashed the reeling Suns by 30 pts in the 136-106 result. Ja Morant played just 27 minutes but still managed 29 pts and Desmond Bane also led the way with 28 pts in under 30 mins as well. So their starters should be fresh for this matchup. This will be their last home game before heading West so they'll be keen to make it 7 straight home victories.

The trip to Memphis is becoming a nightmare for road teams and the Cavs might be without Mitchell. That will make it even tougher and that should see the Grizz cover as home favs. They're 7-3 ATS in their last 10 and the Cavs are just 5-12 on the road.

Stadium Record

Memphis have won 6 straight games on their home court. Cleveland are just 4-9 in Memphis.

Head to Head Record

The Grizzlies have won 3 straight against the Cavs and 4-1 in the last 5.

Best Bet

Memphis Grizzlies -6.5 = $1.89

Miami Heat (24-21) at New Orleans Pelicans (26-18)

The Heat are looking to bounce back after an 8 pt defeat against the Hawks on Tuesday ended a 3-game winning streak. Their defence struggled against Atlanta as they gave up 121 pts so that will be a focus against the Pelicans. The positive at the moment is their lineup is getting healthier and Kyle Lowry should be able to return from injury in this matchup.

The Pelicans are inconsistent at the moment after a 4-6 record in their last 10 but injuries haven't helped. Their missing Zion and Ingram so their offence has struggled to beat the good teams. The Pels duo will be out for this matchup as well so it's all about CJ McCollum and Valanciunas. They both come off scoring 20+ pts against the Cavs on Tuesday. New Orleans has been tough to beat at home despite their injuries as they're 4-1 in their last 5 games.

The head-to-head odds are tight in this matchup so the Under trend should be the way to go. The Heat will be looking to improve their defence after a poor performance and the Pels will be missing some firepower. The Under has also saluted in 7 of the last 8 meetings and 5-1 at this venue.

Stadium Record

New Orleans are 8-2 in their last 10 at home. Miami has covered in 6 of the last 7 games at this venue.

Head to Head Record

The Pelicans own this head-to-head with a 7-3 record since 2017.

Best Bet

Under 221.5 = $1.91
