NBA Tips & Betting Preview | Thursday 17 November

Boston Celtics (11-3) at Atlanta Hawks (9-5)

The Celtics held off the Thunder on Tuesday in a 126-122 victory and extended their winning streak to a league-high 7 games. They now head on a 3 game road trip, starting in Atlanta. They're 5-2 on the road this season and will head into this clash as favourites. However, they don't have the best record in Atlanta, having lost the last 3 outings. But with Tatum and Brown in fine form, they should be confident of turning it around. Tatum top scored with 27 pts on Tuesday and Brown returned from injury to score 26. In injury news, Smart and Brogdon are both questionable for this matchup so that will be something to monitor before tip-off.

The Hawks are coming off a huge upset over the Bucks in Milwaukee on Tuesday. De'Andre Hunter led the Hawks offence with 24 pts in the 121-106 result. So they come into this clash against the Celtics with a lot of confidence. They've also been solid at home this season with 5 wins out of 7 and their home record against the Celtics has been good recently. With Boston's defence coming off allowing 122 pts, Trae Young and Murray will be the key on offence. Both players come off fairly quiet games against the Bucks but this should be a better matchup.

This should be a tight game between two of the best teams in the East. As such, we do like the chances of the Under. Atlanta are 8-3 against the Under on their home court and that includes keeping the 76ers/Bucks both under 100 pts. Boston will be disappointed in their defence on Tuesday so they'll look to improve in this area. The Under is also 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

Stadium Record

Atlanta has won 18 of 22 at home. Boston has lost 3 straight in Atlanta.

Head to Head Record

The Celtics are 6-4 in the last 10 meetings.

Best Bet

Under 232.5 = $1.89

Cleveland Cavaliers (8-5) at Milwaukee Bucks (10-3)

The Cavs are looking to end a 4 game-losing streak when they head to Milwaukee on Thursday. While their losing streak doesn't look great, they have lost all 4 games by close margins. However, their form on the road isn't too flash as they've lost 3 straight. A lot will depend on the injury status of Donovan Mitchell. He missed the 129-124 loss against the T-Wolves on Monday and is considered questionable for this matchup. They're also still missing Allen so their defence will be tested against Giannis.

The Bucks will be looking to respond after a 15-point loss on this court against the Hawks on Tuesday. But the positive news out of the loss was the return of Giannis from a knee injury. He should play more minutes in this contest and gets a good matchup against the Cavs. Jrue Holiday is also expected back from injury and that will give their offence a much-needed boost. In their last 5 games, they're averaging just 108 points. Tuesday's defeat was also their first at home in 8 games so they should be confident of getting back to their winning ways on Thursday.

Both sides have their injury issues but this total looks a bit low. The Over has a strong record in this matchup in Milwaukee at 18-5. The Cavs have given up 129 and 127 pts in 2 of their last 3 games. They should struggle to handle Giannis. Meanwhile, the Bucks haven't been great defensively with their injury issues as they're allowing 115 pts in their last 5.

Stadium Record

Milwaukee holds a 7-1 record in their last 8 at home. Cleveland have a poor 1-7 record at this venue.

Head to Head Record

The Bucks are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings since 2019.

Best Bet

Over 219.5 = $1.91

Golden State Warriors (6-8) at Phoenix Suns (8-5)

The Warriors crushed the Spurs on Tuesday by a margin of 37 points and their excellent form at home continues. They've won 6 of 7 in San Francisco this season. However, their road struggles are concerning as they're yet to win a game in 7 attempts and winning in Phoenix isn't easy at the moment. So they'll need big games from the likes of Curry, Wiggins and Poole. Curry and Wiggins should be fresh for this one after sitting out most of the blowout against the Spurs. Meanwhile, Jordan Poole took over the game with 36 pts and that's a good sign coming into this tougher matchup.

The Suns will be looking forward to a home game after losing 3 of 4 on their most recent road trip. However, they have missed Chris Paul in their last 3 games and still came within a point of the Heat in Miami on Tuesday. Their defence continues to be strong, having allowed just 105 pts in their last 5. So if they can get Paul back for this contest, the Suns will be confident of a turnaround. They also smashed the Warriors earlier this season 134-105 as Devin Booker finished with 34 pts.

The trend in this matchup when these two sides meet in Phoenix is usually low-scoring games and we like it here. The Under has saluted in 6 of the last 8 in Phoenix. The Suns are 5-2 against the Under and the Warriors will likely struggle to score against their defence.

Stadium Record

Phoenix are 6-1 in their last 7 at home. Golden State has lost 4 of their last 5 in Phoenix.

Head to Head Record

The Suns thrashed the Warriors in late October 134-105 and hold a 6-4 record in the last 10.

Best Bet

Under 226.5 = $1.91
