Sandown R1
Brendan McCarthy’s debutant Count of Carford looks like it could be a bit of a smoky in this race. It has trialled up nicely, beating some talented horses at an official trial at Cranbourne. The stable has a big opinion of the horse and 1300m first-up suits based on his pedigree.
Tip: Count of Carford $2.80 place
Sandown R9
The Maher & Eustace trained colt Ocean’s Fourteen was unlucky last start as the winner of the race was just in form and too good but this 1800m BM70 looks to be a nice race for him. Drawn barrier four, he should be able to get a nice position just off the speed with some cover and make a run late.
The other dangerous runner in this race is Mick Price’s Tagreeda. This mare has shown plenty of talent in her career so far and seems to have been building nicely to get out to this trip. The Price team have been on fire recently and Tagreeda is a big chance in this race.
Tip: Oceans Fourteen $3.10/$1.50 & Tagreeda $4.60/$1.90 each way
Canterbury R6
Esperance from the James Cummings/Godolphin yard has class on his side in this race. He ran second here in a BM78 over 1100m and was only beaten by a neck, so he should be primed for the 1200m in a slightly lower grade.
The colt by Bernadini finished a couple of lengths behind talented filly Catchy in a Group 2 last Spring so he should be too good for this field.
Another strong chance in this race is Junglized who is running third-up and will be fit. He finished seventh in the same race that Esperance ran second in last start, but he is an honest performer who will also enjoy the step down in grade.
