- FROM PANTHERLAND ($3.70)
From Pantherland may be the omen bet of the week but the Keys trained gelding also looks a great chance here. He’s had just three career starts and hasn’t quite had a proper chance to display his talent, with excuses in each of his runs. Last start, was wide throughout over 1225m at Geelong and still ran a brave fourth, just 0.3L away. With a good run here up in distance, he might be able to explode to a new level and take this race out.
- SHIBLI ($3.30)
Shibli looks a great chance for the Bowman/Waller combination here. The former UK runner has gotten better with each run this prep and finally scored a win last start at Gosford. He settled in third and crept forward rounding the turn, proving too strong for Jazzland late. In his other two runs this prep, he’s also finished in the money. Should be there in the finish again.
- FUMIKO ($2.60)
Fumiko looks like a runner on the up, especially after a superb effort first up at Wyong. She settled near the rear of the field but was ridden aggressively by James McDonald (rides again today) to loom in the straight and drive past the older horses. She was also ridden 1kg over the limit there. Should improve again second up here and certainly looks the one to beat.
BLUEY’S BEST VALUE
- SOARING EAGLE ($11)
Soaring Eagle resumes here and drops in grade from Group 2 level last start, to BM64 here. He didn’t perform well in that Group 2 run, but the run before at Open grade, he finished just 2.8L away. That should be well above what is required to win this BM64 affair, but it’s just a matter of how well the mare can return first up. We get a nice price to find out and she looks worth a spec at the quote.
