OVERVIEW
A small but quality field lines up for the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill this year. The race is headlined by Group 1 winners Addeybb and Verry Elleegant, who look set to battle it out. Adding to the intrigue for this year’s race is the recent wild weather. With the Rosehill track expected in the Heavy range after a deluge of rain in the past week, this may change the complexion of how the race is run.
SPEED MAP
They should be able to sort their positions out easily here, with Addeybb likely to take up his natural front-running role. Angel of Truth looks the next likely runner, along with Colette and Master of Wine. There should be a further gap back to Sir Dragonet and Verry Elleegant. Backmarkers Nettoyer, Miami Bound and Cliffs Of Moher should sit at the rear of the field.
KEY RUNNERS
- ADDEYBB ($2.20)
Has been in imperious form of late, finishing no worse than 2nd place in his past nine runs. This amazing stretch included six wins, spanning from listed grade all the way up to Group 1 level. In total, he scored three Group 1’s during this period: two in Australia, and one at Royal Ascot. He’s first up here today, but will take beating.
- MASTER OF WINE ($19)
Rose through the grades nicely a few preps back, but has failed to score an elusive Group 1 victory. He’s certainly given it a good crack though and has finished under 2L away in a few of those attempts. He put in a good first up performance over 1600m behind Verry Elleegant in the Chipping Norton and should improve second up. Looks a genuine chance, but will have his work cut out against the topliners.
- VERRY ELLEEGANT ($2.65)
Had a spectacular prep during the Spring, scoring three Group 1 wins, including the Caulfield Cup, before a solid run at the Melbourne Cup to finish off the prep. Resumed with a solid run at Randwick first up, before scoring an impressive win over Colette in the Chipping Norton to notch up her seventh Group 1 win. Gets to a more suitable distance here and certainly looks hard to beat.
BLUEY’S PICK
- ADDEYBB ($2.20)
This looks like a genuine coin flip between Addeybb & Very Elleegant here, but I’m siding with Addeybb, who has shown a liking in the past to rain affected tracks. He won impressively against Verry Elleegant in the Queen Elizabeth this time last year on a Heavy Randwick track and can certainly repeat that here. He gets a great run on the speed and will take catching.
