OVERVIEW
The Fillies kick off the first of the two 3 year old Guineas races at Caulfield this week, and it looks to be an interesting race. Hungry Heart has been a bridesmaid this prep but is clearly talented. She’s up against the lightly raced Instant Celebrity, who is putting her undefeated record on the line once again. They are the top two in the market, but they certainly aren’t unbeatable, with many runners a chance here.
SPEED MAP
There looks to be some pace engaged from out wide, with Night Raid and Vangelic likely to run them along in front. Ecumenical may also elect to cross from the wide barrier and Love Sensation won’t be far away either. Hungry Heart draws an interesting gate for his get back style, whilst Instant Celebrity will likely have to go past the entire field.
KEY RUNNERS
- HUNGRY HEART ($3.40)
Hungry Heart has been an expensive horse to follow this prep, running second narrowly in each of her three starts so far. She has performed well in all of her runs however, so it’s hard to be critical of her performances. She maps very awkwardly here and may find herself toward the rear of the field on the rail, not usually a place you want to be at Caulfield.
- INSTANT CELEBRITY ($3.60)
This Phillip Stokes trained runner just knows how to win, having won all of her four career starts. She was relatively unproven, up until last start, where she made the jump from BM72 all the way to Group 2. She handled that well and displayed an electric turn of foot to score a dominant win. She’s up to this again, but will need a clear run from the back.
- VANGELIC ($10)
Only has the one career win to her name, but she has been right there with some top types this prep, including Hungry Heart, who has only just beaten her in three runs this prep. She has fought gamely in all three starts after leading throughout and maybe a move to Caulfield might suit her racing pattern.
BLUEY’S PICK
- VANGELIC ($10)
Has been a notch below the top types this prep, but has still performed admirably in all three starts when put under pressure. She maps well again here and if she can cross easily from the wide barrier, she might prove too tough, especially with the favourites mapping awkwardly. The tight Caulfield track should only enhance her chances.
