OVERVIEW
This year’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes looks set to be a cracker with a number of in-form runners lined up. Begood Toya Mother heads the early betting on the back of winning 6 of his past 7 races. Jungle Cat took out this race for Godolphin last year and previous winners include; Santa Ana Lane, Rebel Dane & Exceed and Excel.
SPEED MAP
Looks to be a frantic edition of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, with a number of runners set to challenge the lead. Age Of Chivalry will likely opt to use the inside barrier to his advantage and lead them out from Begood Toya Mother who will be prominent early also. The frantic pace may suit Amphitrite who maps just worse than midfield.
KEY RUNNERS
Jamie Kah takes the ride on So Si Bon as she looks to go back-to-back weeks with a Group 1 victory after scoring on the unfancied Gatting last week. So Si Bon has returned super this prep, scoring by a length first up at odds and then just missing last time out at Group 1 level, again at odds. Should be suited here and looks one of the main chances.
Returned from her spell at Caulfield last start and put in a solid run, finishing 2.3L away from Pippie over 1200m. The extra 200m should benefit her greatly and she looks another that should benefit from the frantic tempo up front. Has a terrific second up form and will be looking to unleash her sprint late.
Has been racing in super form, winning 6 out of her last 7 races – the last of which he set an unsustainable pace out in front on a day where leaders weren’t suited. Drops 7kg from that run which is obviously a huge plus, but I’m concerned about the expected race tempo and the pressure he may face from challengers vying for the lead.
BLUEY’S PICK
This race looks like it will come down to which speed is set, but I’m confident there will be a speed battle here which should play into the hands of the backmarkers, namely Amphitrite. Has returned super and should benefit greatly from the first up run and extra distance here. Should put in a strong performance here.
