OVERVIEW
The Robert Sangster Stakes looks to be a very interesting race this year, with Sunlight - a deserving favourite heading the betting. She comes up against the iron horse Away Game, who is having her seventh start this prep and gets in with only 47kg. It looks to be an open affair this year with numerous other chances outside the top two in betting a chance of taking out the race.
SPEED MAP
Speed should be fast here with multiple frontrunners engaged. It might turn into a speed battle early to see who will lead out of; Away Game, Savatiano, Bella Vella and Sunlight. Spanish Whisper and Madam Rouge look to be the next pair. Backmarkers such as Humma Humma and I Am Excited may benefit from this strong speed.
KEY RUNNERS
- SUNLIGHT ($2.90)
Sunlight is the class in the race, holding multiple Group 1 victories to her name and she returned positively with a second to kick off her prep, despite being no match for the talented Gytrash. She should improve second up but may find herself in a speed battle early.
- I AM EXCITED ($9.00)
Scored a brilliant win the Group 1 Galaxy two starts back; she was suited by the strong speed and was able to save ground on the inside to win. She was good again last start when wide no cover throughout, finishing just 3 lengths from the winner. No issue on the wet and will handle the strong tempo here.
- AWAY GAME ($4.60)
Away Game has become somewhat of an iron horse and has is now having her seventh start this prep, which is rare for a 2-year-old. She is coming off a strong win last start at Group 2 level on a Heavy track and gets in here with only 47kg! This is the toughest field she’s faced to date but is definitely in the mix.

- I AM EXCITED ($9.00)
Sunlight looks a deserving favourite on paper but she may get caught in a speed battle up front, which opens it right up for I Am Excited, who relished a strong tempo two back to score impressively in the Galaxy. Up and comer Away Game looks dangerous with only 47kg but I’m willing to risk her at her seventh start this prep.
