OVERVIEW
A small but quality field of 7 runners have been locked in for this year’s Ranvet Stakes which provides plenty of intrigue. The biggest question in the race, no doubt, surrounds International raider Addeybb and how he will fare in his maiden Australian start. He faces some top quality middle-distance horses, including; Avilius, Verry Elleegant and Youngstar.
SPEED MAP
When Verry Elleegant maps to be the solo leader, you can’t exactly expect the pace to be red-hot. Danzdanzdance looks to be up near the front as well and maybe the likes of Nettoyer and Avilius are next. Perhaps the international Addeybb takes it up and turns it into a true staying contest?
KEY RUNNERS
- AVILIUS ($3.80)
Two starts back ran very well behind Te Akau Shark, charging home from the rear to finish just 2L away. Jumped to 2000m last start and was well fancied but was very plain and failed to make an impression on the eventual winners. However, he’s got terrific form at this distance and looks like a top candidate to bounce back.
- ADDEYBB ($2.35)
Overseas raider who is having his first Australian start on the back of a 5-month spell. He’s a very interesting runner who brings some top form into this race, previously defeating Magic Wand who ran well in Australia during Spring. Has won at Group 3 level at Haydock and was extremely impressive in the Group 1 Champion Stakes last start. He’s a huge threat on that form but I’d like to see a run first before taking the shorts.
- VERRY ELLEEGANT ($4.20)
Verry Elleegant is a Group 1 winner over this distance, so it’s impossible to leave this extremely talented mare out of your numbers. She has been solid in two return runs this prep, particularly behind superstar Te Akau Shark last start. Will absolutely relish the jump to 2000m and will be peaking third up.
BLUEY’S PICK
- AVILIUS ($3.80)
Looks a race among the top three for mine and I’m against Addeybb first up in Australia here. Of course, we have seen these international first up runners fire brilliantly first up in the past but I doubt he’ll be fully wound up. Avilius looks like a great candidate to bounce back after a poor outing last start. He has terrific form at this level and can sit closer in this field.
