OVERVIEW
The Ascot Carnival begins today and the Railway Stakes kicks off the first of the Group 1’s in Western Australia. The race looks set to be a cracker, with the talented Inspirational Girl heading the field. She’s only been beaten twice in her career, but will face stiff competition from the likes of Too Close The Sun, who scored by four lengths last week at Ascot. Godolphin runner Kementari lines up here and is nearing 1000 days since his last win. Could today be the day?
SPEED MAP
Massive field here makes it tricky for the jockeys and also the speedmappers, but Great Shot looks the likely leader from gate 3. Too Close The Sun shouldn’t be far away either, but has to contend with barrier 16. Red Can Man should be prominent also along with Gailo Chop and Dance Music. Favourite Inspirational Girl draws a middle gate and should sit midfield.
KEY RUNNERS
- RED CAN MAN ($9)
Went on a tear earlier this year, rising through the grades and winning four consecutive races in impressive fashion. Has been solid so far this prep without winning, facing some high quality fields and finishing thereabouts in all of his runs. He looks to get a great run in transit here again which is always a benefit in large fields. Has the talent to win.
- INSPIRATIONAL GIRL ($3.80)
Comes into this as a deserving favourite, having only been defeated twice in her ten race career. She was beaten by under a length in both of those races and looks a formidable foe. Last start, she defeated both Too Close The Sun and Red Can Man in style, sitting midfield and blousing the field late. Will be tough to beat again here with even luck.
- TOO CLOSE THE SUN ($5.00)
Interesting runner here, who looks well on the up in his career. He had a relatively slow start to his career, but has been superb since his first prep, notching up eight wins in his short career. He was very impressive last start at Ascot, winning by four lengths on a rain affected track. He’s third up here and will be raring to go.
BLUEY’S PICK
- TOO CLOSE THE SUN ($5.00)
Favourite Inspirational Girl no doubt looks the one to beat, but more than likely she’ll have a wall of horses in front of her. Too Close The Sun raced against Inspirational Girl first up and looked a little underdone, but he hit back impressively last start, winning by four lengths on a bog Ascot track. He looks to have the most upside and looks to get a good run on the speed.
