OVERVIEW
Pike was unable to score back-to-back Group 1 wins last week, with favourite Trekking going down in the Winterbottom. He gets another great chance to make it two from three in the West though, as he rides the favourite Inspirational Girl again here. She won impressively in the Railway and looks very hard to beat here, but she’ll face a decent field here and draws wide, so she’s certainly not unbeatable.
SPEED MAP
Pace looks to be genuine here with Trap For Fools and Too Close The Sun injecting some speed from the wider barriers. Galileo Chop and Gemma’s Son should be handy from barriers 3 & 4 respectively. From there it gets a little messy, but any of Taxogano, Missile Launch or Truly Great may push forward. Favourite Inspirational Girl draws the carpark and Pike will have his work cut out for him from there.
KEY RUNNERS
- TRULY GREAT ($19)
Handy galloper from the Williams stable who certainly knows how to win. He’s scored six wins from just eleven career starts now and has risen through the grades meteorically. He was racing in Rating 72+ just three starts ago, before jumping up to Group 3 level and scoring a win the following start. He raced well in his first Group 1 start in the Railway, finishing just 3L away from Inspirational Girl. Plenty of upside.
- INSPIRATIONAL GIRL ($2.30)
The form horse in the race and the deserving favourite. He kicked off the prep with a narrow third over 1400m before scoring three consecutive wins from off the speed, showcasing his brilliant sprint in the straight. He took out the Group 1 Railway Stakes last start, with a great ride from Pike, who sticks here. Definitely the one to beat but the wide gate is a concern.
- DOM TO SHOOT ($7.50)
Having his first go past 1600m here and could be a potential improver off the back of that, with a promising performance last start in the Group 2 WA Guineas over 1600m. He’s a very consistent galloper, who has been there abouts in every run this prep, with his biggest losing margin just 1.45L. He’s still only a 3YO, so he has plenty of scope to improve here.
BLUEY’S PICK
- TRULY GREAT ($19)
Inspirational Girl looks terribly hard to beat here, but I’m not jumping out of the trees to back her at $2.30 from the wide gate. I’m with Truly Great, who finished just 3L away from Inspirational Girl in the Railway and has plenty of scope to improve off that run. He knows how to win and has handled every step up in class so far this prep. He looks great value at odds here.
