OVERVIEW
A small but quality field assembles here for the 2020 edition of the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield. The Futurity is the first of three Group 1’s on Saturday and looks to be a standout race. The three favourites Kolding, Melody Belle and Super Seth dominate betting and the race looks to be between them.
SPEED MAP
Streets of Avalon should resume his standard frontrunning role here after being run down in the shadows of the post last start. Aside from him, there doesn’t look to be a lot of speed engaged here. Wild Planet may punch up from the inside barrier and Black Heart Bart may push forward from the wide barrier.
KEY RUNNERS
- KOLDING ($3.30)
Having second run back today after a putting in a solid return at 1200m, finishing 2.25L away from Standout in the G2 Expressway. Won second up last prep at 1400m and looks a great candidate to improve off that back of that run. One of the main chances.
- MELODY BELLE ($2.75)
This talented New Zealand mare resumes here after a 3-month spell following a supremely impressive Spring preparation. She won four times last prep at Group 1 level, twice in New Zealand and twice in Australia. Absolute star mare and shouldn’t be far away here.
- SUPER SETH ($2.75)
Super Seth is the only horse to have beaten Alligator Blood during his career, which is a testament to the quality Colt that he is. He impressed yet again when resuming, scoring a 1.3L victory at Group 3 level over 1200m. Has shown he has a withering burst of speed and can feature here in the finish.
BLUEY’S PICK
- MELODY BELLE ($2.75)
Despite the talent in this field, I find it impossible to go past Melody Belle here, who brings a clear class edge over this field. She is a star mare who has notched up 4 Group 1 wins in her last prep alone. Even though this is below her best distance, I think she’ll prove extremely tough to beat here.
