OVERVIEW
All eyes will be on the Godolphin runners here, with Bivouac backing up after a very unlucky start in the Manikato Stakes last week and Microphone going down as a highly fancied favourite last start. They’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Exceedance, who has lowered Bivouac’s colours once already this prep.
SPEED MAP
Doesn’t look to be a crazy amount of speed in this race but Sartorial Splendour in barrier 1 should keep them honest. There’s a few on pacers in the race however, so maybe we might see a bit of a tussle for positions early. We might see them split into two divisions down the straight, as Alabama Express and Dubious draw wide and may also elect to push forward.
KEY RUNNERS
- MICROPHONE ($11)
Supremely talented Colt who was well backed first up at a short quote. Seemed to have every chance in that race but failed to finish the race off in his usual dominant fashion. Will be much fitter here but on the back of his lack of turn of foot first up, I’m thinking he may be better over further. Bounce back candidate nonetheless.
- BIVOUAC ($3.20)
Incredibly unlucky watch for backers last start, with Bivouac tucked away on the fence at Moonee Valley. He comes up against a much more talented field here but should fare much better. Prior to that run, had been nearly flawless this prep, only being defeated by Exceedance on a bottomless track. Has beaten Everest winner Yes Yes Yes multiple times this prep.
- EXCEEDANCE ($4.80)
Lowered Bivouac’s colours in dramatic fashion earlier this prep, and in the process also ensured many multis who had the $1.20F Bivouac in them were also worthless. Bivouac has had his measure in his two starts since but he has still been racing in top form and can certainly win here.

- BIVOUAC ($3.20)
I’m banking on Godolphin taking out this race and the favourite Bivaouc looks very hard to beat. It looked to be a case of “How far?” in the Manikato Stakes and I’m confident that won’t happen again down the Flemington straight. Form has been very strong this prep. The one to beat.
