Race Overview
The ATC Sires Produce over 1400 metres forms the middle leg of the Australian two year old ‘Triple Crown’ with the Golden Slipper (1200 metres) and Champagne Stakes (1600 metres) and has been previously won by greats of the turf such as Pierro, Octagonal and Sebring.
Race Speed
Lightsaber will more than likely take the lead, as has been his racing pattern, ahead of the filly Four Moves Ahead. Daily Bugle will be in the second pair back with race favourite Anamoe, while the Hawkes trained Hilal will spot them all a start.
Key Runners
- Anamoe ($1.90)
Ran the best late splits in the Golden Slipper to finish second after getting a long way back from a bad gate and has been priced in the red here to claim his first Group One. James McDonald secures the ride for Godolphin and should be able to get the run of the race in behind the speed, however has had testing runs in the Slipper, Todman Stakes and Blue Diamond prior to that with the colt’s supporters hoping he has one more big performance in him.
- Captivant ($11)
Drifted heavily in the market to start as one of the outsider’s in the Golden Slipper but defied his odds to run fifth, including the third fastest last 600 despite racing in restricted room the last furlong. Has not won since his debut in the Victory Vein last October but will be peaking third up for the Snowden stable and expect him to figure in the placings.
- Lightsaber ($9)
A winner of three on the bounce including an all the way win in the Victorian Race Club Sires last start over this distance at Flemington ensures commands respect in the market here. Will dictate his own luck in a field devoid of speed and is one of only two horses in the field who has experience over seven furlongs. Is yet to strike a rain affected track hence the each way price.
- Four Moves Ahead ($5)
Was the first filly home in the Golden Slipper to run fourth but was still over two lengths back from her main rival Anamoe. Trainer John Sargent suggested she was not on top of her game there due to the postponement of the meeting but will be better for the run. Has won on both soft and heavy ground and won in her only race at Randwick.
Race Selection
- Lightsaber ($9)
Going with the Victorian raider Lightsaber to secure a maiden Group One win in the Sires Produce. While favourite Anamoe deserves favouritism on the back of his Slipper performance, Lightsaber’s experience at the distance and ability to make his own luck in front was too good to ignore considering his odds. While leaders at Randwick in races longer than 1200 metres tend to win at a lower strike rate than the Australian average, trainer Peter Moody has targeted him for this race and will no doubt have him peaking Saturday.
