Race Overview
Godolphin look to have a stranglehold of the 2018 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, holding three of the key players in the market, however that’s not to say they have it all wrapped up as it looks to be a very competitive race. Santa Ana Lane took out this race last year and previous winners include; Trust in a Gust, Rebel Dane & Exceed and Excel.
Race Speed
The pace looks to be genuine here with speedster Home of the Brave likely to take up the running after leading all the way last start. Hellova Street may hold him out however and Ozi Choice is likely to among the leading division also. There are a number of backmarkers in the race which could make the race a bit messy towards the rear.
Key Runners
- JUNGLE CAT ($10.00)
Very intriguing overseas runner for Charlie Appleby. Having his first Australian run here and could be the x-factor in the race. Last start won the Group 1 Dubai Al Quoz – his third consecutive victory. Fitness will be a big factor here, but if ready to go will go very close.
- HOME OF THE BRAVE ($4.40)
Has been well supported in both runs this prep and seemingly took it to the next level when leading all the way on a heavy Randwick track last start. That was against some quality horses and to be honest he never looked like being beaten once he found the front. The rail out 9m will be of benefit to him and he should take some catching from the front.
- OSBORNE BULLS ($6.00)
Yet another Godolphin runner! Osborne Bulls has a fantastic turn of foot and we’ve seen him do that time & time again in the past, including an impressive victory first up. He will however, need a very good steer from Craig Williams in this large field and rail out 9m, but if he has clear air late – look out!
- LAND OF PLENTY ($6.00)
Just missed Osborne Bulls here first up this prep when found some trouble around the 300m mark and then went on to score fairly easily at Moonee Valley where he quickened like a very good type. Draws barrier 15 here which may be tricky, but it’s hard to leave him out of your numbers on current form.
Bluey's Best
- HOME OF THE BRAVE ($4.40)
Loved the last start win when never looked like losing. He took great improvement from his first run in Australia – behind one of the form horses at the moment Voodoo Lad. He should be able to lead fairly easily again today and with some key chances mapping towards the rear in this large field, plus the rail out 9m I think he’ll take some serious catching.
