Race Speed
Pace should be moderate to fast with speed ensured from Jungle Edge who is a speedster. Favourite Vega Magic will push forward to sit either outside or just behind Jungle Edge, along with Showtime who has the benefit of barrier 2. Dollar For Dollar may push forward from the wider barrier, while Kings Will Dream and Kementari may have some work to do from out wide. Humidor is a noted backmarker, and that shouldn’t change too much today.
Key Runners
1. HAPPY CLAPPER ($5.50) Happy Clapper is one of the classiest horses in Australia and despite this being short of his best distance, we can be confident he will put in a great return first up. Has won a total of 4 times first up, including last prep when he broke the Randwick 1300m track record. Proven G1 performer. 3. VEGA MAGIC ($2.75) Huge win last start at Morphettville defeating the in-form Voodoo Lad by 3 lengths who then went on to score at Flemington in a strong race. Won this race last year in strong fashion and is an absolute star. Only query is blinkers are back off today. 10. SHOWTIME ($11.00) Looks to get a great the run of the race from barrier 2, on a day that will likely suit the on pacers. First up endured a tough run but stuck on well and last start was very tough and fought all the way to the line to score impressively. Could provide resistance to those in the market!
Best Bet
3. VEGA MAGIC ($2.75) After watching Vega Magic punish Voodoo Lad last start (very good form line), it’s extremely hard to back anything else here. Was wound up in that race as trainer was looking to secure an Everest spot which means that fitness should not be a problem. 2nd up record is also very impressive (6: 5-0-1). Looks to get a great position in the run and will be very hard to hold out here.
