Race Overview
The Kingston Town Classic, named in honour of the Australian Racing Hall of Fame Horse, is the final Group One race of the calendar year, set over 1800 metres under Weight for Age conditions. Since 2000, eight winners of the Kingston Town Classic have come through the Railway Stakes two weeks prior.
Race Speed
Great Shot will come forward from barrier five, while last start Group One winner Trap For Fools will also look to roll along from the wider draw. Early race favourite Arcadia Queen will have the option of having cover from barrier six while Railway Stakes victor Galaxy Star will drop back from the wide draw.
Key Runners
- Galaxy Star ($4.80)
Is a winner of seven from ten, including a last start victory in the Group 1 Railway Stakes. Was running on strongly so the rise to 1800 metres from the mile should provide no issues. Rises 4 kilograms in weight under the WFA scale, but right in this.
- Material Man ($8.00)
Was strong when third in the Railway Stakes behind Galaxy Star. Has placed at this distance and won beyond, suggesting the transition to 1800 metres second up will provide no queries. Should get a soft run just off the speed from barrier two – top chance!
- Arcadia Queen ($2.60)
Like stablemate Galaxy Star, was victorious last time out in the West Australian in a dominant display over 1600m. As a three-year-old, Galaxy Star gets into the race with only 50 kilograms – a significant swing on all runners.
Race Selection
- Arcadia Queen ($2.60)
Has improved every run since she debuted, with many pundits backing her to make a splash on the East Coast during Autumn. In form hoop William Pike electing to ride her over Galaxy Star suggests Arcadia Queen has more upside, especially with the light weight.
