Race Overview
The running of the world’s richest race for two year olds has presented us with one of the most open fields in recent memory. Almost every horse is a live chance, including the large collection of Godolphin runners, who will look to hand the international stable their first Golden Slipper. Cosmic Force lines up as favourite in early markets after a dominant last start win in the Pago Pago.
Race Speed
Time to Reign and Free of Debt will look to tack across from barrier nine and ten respectively and take up the speed. Race favourite Cosmic Force will settle midfield from an inside draw while last start winner Yes Yes Yes has drawn poorly and will need luck in the running.
Key Runners
- MICROPHONE ($7.50)
Three wins from four starts including a victory over race favourite Cosmic Force who franked the form by dominating his rivals in his subsequent start. Draws to do no work from the inside gate and the rail has been the place to be in recent Slippers.
- TENLEY ($6.00)
Showed tremendous turn of foot to claim the Group Two Riesling Stakes over many rivals she faces again Saturday. Is unbeaten in her three starts to date and has the confidence of James McDonald who chose to ride her over several other chances. If she handles the track, she’ll be in the finish.
- LYRE ($12.00)
Seems to have been forgotten in much of the pre-race talk despite taking out the Blue Diamond Stakes last month. Has trialled well since the win at Caulfield and will look to go back to the rear of the field and swoop home. Looks attractive at double figure odds.
- COSMIC FORCE ($4.80)
Chased home favoured Godolphin colt Microphone in the Skyline Stakes before putting his rivals to the sword with a dominant seven and a half length win in the Pago Pago Stakes last Saturday. Proven on the heavy track and the short back up looks a positive move.
Race Selection
- LYRE ($12.00)
In such an open field have elected to go with Lyre who sits at extremely juicy odds as a last start group winner. Trainer Anthony Freedman will have her peaking on the back of a trial run and her speed at the business end of the race should see her go close.
