OVERVIEW
The 2019 Queen of the Turf sets up as a very interesting race as Godolphin runner Alizee looks to make it back to back wins in the race. However, she struggled in the Doncaster Mile last week and that leaves the race wide open. The Queen of the Turf is the final Group 1 of The Championships and fittingly, should be a thriller.
SPEED MAP
Can’t really see them running along extremely quick here but it seems likely that one of Daysee Doom, Spanish Reef or Miss Siska should lead them along. Prompt Response should be prominent and the majority of the rest of the runners will fight out for their positions midfield. Amphitrite and Alizee should settle towards the rear of the field.
KEY RUNNERS
- ALIZEE ($5.50)
Was one of the main favourite to take out the Doncaster last week but largely unperformed, finishing 17th out of 20 runners. Form prior to that was very good including wins over Hartnell and Le Romain to begin the prep before a solid run in the All Star Mile. No issues with the short backup as last week was more like a barrier trial.
- UNFORGOTTEN ($10.00)
An up and coming mare who has run in Group 1 races her last three starts, performing admirably in all of them. She has not enjoyed the Sydney weather and she’ll be much better suited back to a dry track. Last prep finished 1L away from Hartnell in the Group 1 Epsom. Rock hard fit here and one of the main chances.
- AMPHITRITE ($9.00)
Some strong form lines this prep (and last prep for that matter) – she’s raced against the likes of Verry Elleegant, whom she beat; Mystic Journey, Hartnell and Alizee. She’s been close in all of those starts but seemingly found a couple better each time. Hard to forget her finish to win the 1000 Guineas in Spring and with the right run she could go close here again.
BLUEY’S PICK
- ALIZEE ($5.50)
Weather will play a part here, but I think on a dry track I think Alizee is very hard to beat here – her lead in form (forgetting last week) was simply superb and that was against some high-quality horses. This is still a strong race, but she definitely has a class edge here and if she can bring her best, she’ll be the one to beat here.
