Race Overview
Saturday’s Coolmore Classic kicks off the Golden Slipper Carnival at Rosehill and has attracted a capacity field with four emergencies. 2018 winner Daysee Doom is back to defend her crown but faces some stiff competition through the likes of the consistent I Am Serious. Jamaican Rain lines up here but the Sydney rain looks to play a huge factor here, as the forecast is set to be a wet one.
Race Speed
Trap For Fools should be able to roll to the front from Barrier 6 and lead them at a good clip the whole way. The Taj Mahal and Ace High should also be prominent early. Muntahaa may elect to push forward from the outside barrier. Avilius will have his hands full from Barrier 1 and Yogi should be the backmarker in the race.
Race Speed
Race outsider Mandylion will push forward from inside draw along with last start winner Alassio from the Waterhouse & Bott stable. Early favourite I Am Serious will look to sit midfield with cover from barrier fifteen while the jockeys outside her will have to make key decisions as they track across into the race.
Key Runners
- OREGON’S DAY ($13)
Oregon’s Day just missed when second in this race last year to Daysee Doom and looms as a significant threat again for the 2019 edition. Resumed over 1400 metres at Flemington in the Group Three Tressady Stakes where she was victorious and will no doubt take improvement from that race. There is a query over whether she can handle the predicted wet track, however has placed in all three attempts at this distance.
- ALASSIO ($13)
This lightly raced Mare from the Waterhouse & Bott stable knows how to find the line, taking the chocolates six times from her ten career starts. Has won two on the bounce including an impressive victory when challenged in the straight but responded well to defeat a few who line up again Saturday.
- I AM SERIOUS ($5.50)
Chased hard first up over 1300 metres to just miss despite not getting clear air until the final furlong. Will also enjoy the step up in distance, and possesses some very sound form with the sting out of the track – four from six on a soft rated track and a perfect record on the heavy. If leading hoop James McDonald can position her with a bit of cover midfield, then she will be right in the finish.
24e. POHUTAKAWA ($17)
Is the fourth emergency however must be worth some consideration at her price. Has been luckless this prep against other horses her age - which is a positive here as she gets into the race with just 50 kilograms. The Godolphin stable is flying and should run here and not at Kembla Grange on Friday then she is a live chance
Race Selection
- I AM SERIOUS ($5.50)
Flashed home first up at this track only to be beaten a neck by the highly unfancied White Moss who jumped at $40-1+. Will have taken improvement from that run and most importantly should get through the wet track which is expected. Very open race but she is a talented horse who looks to be a great chance here.
