Sandown R1
Alexandria from the Pat Carey stable was very impressive on debut at Pakenham. It wasn’t the strongest race, but she raced greenly and over-raced for a lot of the trip but still won convincingly.
She will have improved with the experience and has a two kilo claim and I think she will go well in this race.
The favourite in this race, Queen La Diva from team Weir, was also impressive at her last start where she won convincingly, and Johnny Allen eased her down on the line.
She has been up for a long time and it’s hard to see her taking much more improvement, but you can’t knock the Weir/Allen combination at the moment.
Tip: Alexandria $3.90/$2.05
Sandown R2
Really Swish from team Corstens ran well behind the talented The Closer last start.
It took her a while to get clear running but when she did, she finished off well for fourth. MY only query is that when the pressure came on, she seemed to start to hang in a bit so there is a chance she won’t run out the mile.
Going back to the Queen La Diva form, Rebel Romance finished second to her last start and beat the third horse by a long way. It wasn’t a strong race, but I think she still would have a strong chance in this race.
Tip: Rebel Romance $3.30/$1.32
Warwick Farm R4
Task and Purpose from the Chris Waller stable ran better last start than it looks on paper. She had plenty left in the tank but was on the rail on a heavy 8 track and just couldn’t make any ground on the horses outside of her.
She will be fitter for that run and I think she is over the odds.
Tip: Task and Purpose $5/$1.80
