Bendigo R3
Dubai Tycoon from Mick Price’s stable looks the goods. It was impressive the way he fought on to win his first start and while he did lose at Hamilton last start, he was six weeks in between runs and just lacked a bit of fitness to finish off the full 1400m.
He will have come on from that run and Mick Dee knows him well, so I think he will be winning.
The favourite, Mr Genoa, has just joined team Weir from Perth and while he looks to have ability with one win from one start, first up over 1400m is a query.
You can’t knock Weir and there’s no doubt he will have him fit first up, but youd would rather watch him go around than take the short odds.
Tip: Dubai Tycoon $4.20 WIN
Bendigo R8 – Bendigo Cup
Darren Weir’s favourite Furrion is hard to go past here. He’s hardly put in a bad run in his whole career and has never missed a placing. He was unlucky in the Cranbourne Cup in a tight finish but should redeem himself here as long as the track isn’t rock hard.
For a bit more value, look into Dal Harraild from the Maher/Eustace yard. He got trapped in a poor spot on the fence in his run in the Herbert Power but finished off nicely and ran the fourth quickest final 200m of the race despite not having clear galloping room at any stage.
The import will improve fitness wise off the back of that run and wouldn’t surprise if he ran in the money.
Tip: Furrion $2.20 Win
Randwick R3
Chris Waller’s Savacool is the best of this race. She is a talented mare that has always shown nice ability and is bred for this distance. While she is on a quick backup from last Saturday, the Waller team will manage her effectivley to go around again and down in distance from 2000m to 1800m. She has a big weight of 62.5kg but apprentice Sam Weatherly claims two kilos to bring her down to 60.5kg.
Tip: Savacool $2.15 Win
