Sandown Race 1
Darren Weir and John Allen are teaming up in this race with Declares War and that in itself is almost enough to back this colt.
His last start at Kyneton was impressive where he finished third and flashed home from the back of the field over 1200m. He ran some of the quickest sectionals of that meeting and looks like he will relish the step up to 1400m and will likely go even further.
Bianco Nuovo from the Mike Moroney yard looks like it could be a nice place chance.
It is looking for more distance, but he goes well first up and ran second over this distance at his first start last prep, so it wouldn’t surprise if he finished in the money.
Tip: Declares War $2.90/$1.40
Sandown Race 2
A horse I can make a case for and one I think is over the odds is Tony Vasil’s Mosheba.
She ran on well behind one that looks to be pretty smart after travelling wide the whole trip and still on got beaten by less than half a length at her last start.
She has drawn well, and I think she could be a good place chance in a very open race.
Tip: Mosheba place - $5.00
Newcastle Race 6
Short-price favourite Keep Up from the Clare Cunningham stable looks like it will be very hard to beat. It won well over 2100m last start at Hawkesbury and I can’t see why it wouldn’t run 2300m.
The gelding is carrying a decent weight, but it won with the same weight at its last start and seems to have been set for this race so I think it will win.
Tip: Keep Up $1.95 Win
