The mighty mare Winx has opened $1.10 with Bluebet to record her 19th straight win on route to a historic third W.S. Cox Plate in this Saturday’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick.
What can we say about her that hasn’t been said before? Her unbeaten run looked in serious jeopardy first-up when she flopped out of the gates some four lengths adrift in the Warwick Stakes here a fortnight ago. But as good horses do, she found a way to win reeling off scintillating late splits to overhaul stablemate Foxplay in the shadows of the post. From all reports, Winx has bounced through the first up assignment and will meet a field of eleven on Saturday, jumping from gate 3.
Despite the short odds, Michael Sullivan expects the majority of the money to come for the champion mare. “She’s better than bank interest,” says Sullivan.
“No matter what price she is the punters still come for her. We took some very large bets on her first up and we expect a number of the big punters to step in again come Saturday. Barring some serious bad luck, she’s just too good for them.”
