2017 Group 1 The BMW Preview
Saturday 25 March
Rosehill Racecourse
The 2017 edition of The BMW shapes up to be a cracking race with a compact but quality field lining up in the 2400m WFA race.
There are three last start winners in the field including Group 1 winners Our Ivanhowe ($4) and Humidor ($4.40) as well as Kiwi gelding, Tavago ($4.80) all well in the betting.
Our Ivanhowe will be on the quick back up after he lapped up the heavy 10 track when winning the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes just last Saturday. He gets another heavy track again this week and will be very hard to beat. Our Ivanhowe has been a scratching on vets advice.
Darren Weir trained Humidor has had a strong campaign culminating in breaking through for his first Group 1 victory in the Australian Cup last start. He has only missed the placings three times in 15 starts and will be running on late.
Tavago was well backed ($13-$9) when he donkey licked them in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes at Rosehill last start. He’s clearly flying at the moment but this is another step up in class this week.
Ciaran Maher trained mare Jameka ($3.90) holds favouritism following her gallant second in the Group 1 Australian Cup to Humidor. She will strip fitter for the run and has been well supported $4.40 into $3.90.
Of the others, Freedman trained Exospheric ran on strongly last start when he ran third second up behind Humidor and Jameka in the Australian Cup. Wet track a query for him but watch any market moves.
The Sydneysiders haven’t been given much of a hope with Chris Waller’s trio Who Shot Thebarman, Grand Marshal and Libran all needing radical form reversals to figure.
VRC Oaks heroine Lasqueti Spirit carrys 52kg on her way to the ATC Oaks however it is hard to see her figure in the finish against these seasoned campaigners though she has shocked us in the past.
Best Bet – Humidor WIN $3.70
