2017 G1 Memsie Stakes Betting Preview

Caulfield
R7 – (G1) New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m)

A quality field will assemble for the first Victorian Group 1 of the season in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

The ultra-impressive Vega Magic has opened the $2.60 favourite with Bluebet, and will look to further his claims for a start in the $10 million Everest with victory on Saturday.

Lindsay Park have publically stated they have a big opinion of this gelding, and after a dominant first-up display he certainly looks the one to beat here. The chances don’t end there though, with dual Group 1 winner Le Romain on the second line of betting at $5.00, just in front of Aurie’s Star winner Hey Doc ($6.50) and the king of Caulfield Black Heart Bart ($7.00).

The Memsie will also see some quality stayers kicking off their spring campaigns, in particular the Murray Baker trained Jon Snow who is being aimed at this year’s Caulfield Cup. Look for him to be running on late.

“It’s a great edition of the Memsie this year,” says Michael Sullivan.

“Vega Magic certainly looks a standout coming off a super tough win in the Regal Roller.

“He carried weight that day and was tough to the line holding off the challenge of the Japanese horse Brave Smash.

“He was backed from $5.00 in the morning to jump $2.70 that day and I expect the punters will come for him again.”
