Sydney Thunder v Perth Scorchers
When: 11th Jan 2018, 7:40pm (AEDT)
Where: Spotless Stadium
Odds: Scorchers $1.70, Thunder $2.17
Form Guide
The Sydney Thunder face a must win game at 2-4 and in 6th place on the ladder. They were beaten by the Strikers at home in their last game and will now be missing Englishman Jos Buttler. That puts the pressure on Watson and the rest of his struggling side. In positive news, Khawaja is back in the side and he’s coming off a huge hundred in the 5th test.
Perth continued their impressive season with a last ball victory over the Renegades at home. They sit second on the ladder with a 5-1 record, but they will be missing a few key players for this one. Richardson and Tye have been picked for Australia’s ODI series. David Willey is also out and Tim Bresnan will take his place. Cam Bancroft is also back from the Test series.
Head to Head
The Scorchers are 5-1 against the Thunder since 2010. They’ve also never lost against them in Sydney and have scored 170+ in the last two meetings.
Top Runscorer: Thunder
For the Thunder, Shane Watson is the key batsman. He’s currently third in the Big Bash with 236 runs at an average of 56.80. Usman Khawaja is one to watch after his hundred at the SCG against England. We’ll wait a game to see how he adjusts to T20 from Test cricket though.
Best Bet: Shane Watson ($3.60)
Top Runscorer: Scorchers
Our man Klinger lost his wicket first ball last game, but could rebound against the Thunder openers. However, we do like Ashton Turner after his impressive match-winning knock against the Renegades. He leads the Scorchers with 196 runs in 6 innings and has hit two half-centuries.
Best Bet: Ashton Turner ($4.50)
Prediction
Scorchers WIN ($1.70)
Despite missing a few key bowlers, Johnson is hard to face, Joel Paris is similar to Richardson and Tim Bresnan is a decent replacement for Willey. The Thunder have a strong spin bowling lineup, but the likes of Turner and Agar should enjoy facing them in the middle overs. Whereas the Thunder have a weak batting lineup. Scorchers to win.
Melbourne Renegades v Melbourne Stars
When: 12th Jan 2018, 7:40pm (AEDT)
Where: Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
Odds: Renegades $1.66, Stars $2.23
Form Guide
The Renegades were beaten on the last ball against the Scorchers last game but will confident of a rebound against the Stars. Cameron White continued his batting form and Tom Cooper is an underrated T20 batsman. The bowlers let them down against Perth but the Stars aren’t batting well at the moment. In team news, Aaron Finch is out however the Renegades have the depth to replace him.
The Melbourne Stars horror season continues as they sit at the bottom of the ladder with a 0-5 record. Their bowling lineup is arguably the worst in the Big Bash as they just can’t take early wickets. To make matters worse, their top order batting is out of form and usually has to be saved by Maxwell or Stoinis. They’ll lose Stoinis to the Australian squad as well.
Head to Head
The Stars are 8-4 against the Renegades since 2010. However, the Renegades beat them last week and have a better squad this season.
Top Runscorer: Renegades
With no Finch, that opens up the batting lineup for Cameron White to top score. He’s averaging 142.50 with the bat and has three half-centuries in 6 innings. He also won the game against the Stars in the last meeting. Tom Cooper is another to watch as he’s scored 143 runs in 4 innings so far.
Best Bet: Cameron White ($3.50)
Top Runscorer: Stars
The Stars batting lineup is in disarray at the moment. Ben Dunk has been a failure at the top, Pieterson looked very average last game, Handscomb is out of form and Luke Wright is injured. So that leaves us with the in-form Glenn Maxwell. He has scores of 60, 33 and 50 in his last three matches and he’s the best bet for the Stars here.
Best Bet: Glenn Maxwell ($4.50)
Prediction
Renegades WIN ($1.73)
Until the Stars start taking early wickets and scoring power-play runs, this team is just hard to watch or bet on at the moment. The Renegades just scored 180+ against the Scorchers in Perth and their bowlers should enjoy a better time at Etihad.
Other Round 7 Big Bash Tips:
Strikers vs Scorchers - Strikers WIN ($1.78)
Sixers vs Thunder - Heat WIN ($2.02)
