Sydney Cup History

The Sydney Cup was first run in 1862 as part of a Metropolitan Autumn meeting at Randwick. In 1865 the race was called the Randwick Grand Handicap Sweepstakes but by 1866 the Australian Jockey club changed the name to the Sydney Gold Cup.
