The 2017 Queen Of The Turf Stakes is a Group weight-for-age for fillies and mares held over a distance of 1600 metres at Randwick Racecourse with prizemoney of $1,000,000. The Queen of the Turf Stakes, raced as The Coolmore Legacy Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 that occurs in Sydney as part of the Autumn Carnival during the ATC Championships series. It is run on the same day as the Sydney Cup, Australian Oaks & The Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The Queen Of The Turf Stakes, as its name implies, brings together the best fillies and mares of the Autumn as part of the Sydney Racing Carnival. In 2005, the race was switched from a handicap to weight-for-age which has bolstered the quality of entries and thus justified its elevation to Group 1 status.
In 2014, the race was changed from the 1500 metres at Rosehill to the Randwick mile, becoming part of 'The Championships' initiative.
Since the change of weight conditions, multiple Group I-winning fillies and mares have joined the honour roll, including Azkadellia (2016) Appearance (2013), More Joyous (2011-2012), Typhoon Tracy (2010) Divine, Forensics (2008) & Divine Madonna (2007).
The changeover to weight-for-age has also served to assist favourites, as eight of the last 12 have won.
