About the Memsie Stakes
The Memsie Stakes is the first Group 1 race of the season and marks the beginning of the prestigious Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is held over a distance of 1400m and generally kicks off the preparation for those heading for the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup. History of the Memsie Stakes
The Memsie Stakes was first held in 1899 and has often been used as a return race for elite stayers coming back from a Winter spell. Many racings greats have taken out the race over the years, including; So You Think, Makybe Diva, Sunline, Manikato and Phar Lap.
