The Doomben 10,000 is a Group 1 weight for age event held over a distance of 1200 metres at Doomben Racecourse with prizemoney of $700,000. The Doomben 10,000 is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 1 that occurs in Brisbane as part of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival during the Brisbane Racing Carnival. It is run on the same day as the Champagne Classic for two-year-olds and Rough Habbit Plate for three-year-olds. It is one of two Group 1 races held at Doomben. The other is the Doomben Cup run over 2000m.
Some greats of the Australian turf have won the Doomben 10,000 including – Apache Cat (2008 & 2009), Takeover Target (2007), Manikato (1979) and Bernborough (1946).
TJ Smith holds the record for most wins in the Doomben 10,000. He won the race six times.
History of The Doomben 10,000
The Doomben 10,000 was first run in 1933. The race was originally run over 1200m and was called the Doomben Newmarket Handicap. The race was renamed Doomben 10,000 in 1947. In 1942, the race distance was changed to 1400m and in 1973 once again changed to 1350m. In 2017, the race has been changed back to its original distance of 1200m.

- Traditionally, the BTC Cup (1200m) has been a favoured lead up race to the Doomben 10,000. However, in 2017, the winter carnival schedule has changed so that the Doomben 10,000 will now likely be a key lead up race to the Kingsford Smith Cup (formerly BTC Cup) raced over 1300m under WFA conditions on Saturday 27 May 2017
