Saturday AFL Tips – Suns to Dominate, Jackson to Shine

We’ve got three games on Saturday in Round 2 of the AFL season, highlighted by Luke Jackson taking on his former side when Fremantle host Melbourne.

Richmond Tigers vs Gold Coast Suns

LEG 1 - Gold Coast -34.5

The Suns have had Richmond’s measure since 2020.

Gold Coast have covered the line in seven of their last eight meetings with the Tigers, winning six of those games. The only miss came in Dimma’s return to Marvel Stadium last season, when Richmond caused an upset.

The Suns won by 84 points the last time these sides met, and while a margin like that may be unlikely again, they should still win comfortably.

LEG 2 - Sam Banks 20+ Disposals

Banks featured in our winning Round 1 Thursday Night play and remains well priced here.

He’s hit 20+ disposals in 12 of his last 16 games as Richmond’s designated distributor out of defence.

He also recorded 20+ in both games against the Suns last season, including 26 in that 84-point loss.

GWS Giants vs St Kilda Saints

LEG 3 - Rowan Marshall 1+ Goals

The Giants were exposed by key forwards last week, conceding six goals to Naughton and four to Darcy.

That sets up well for Marshall, who returns after a quiet Round 1 where he was subbed out with concussion after limited midfield involvement.

With Cooper Sharman struggling, the Saints need a forward target. Expect Marshall to spend more time inside 50 and hit the scoreboard.

Fremantle Dockers vs Melbourne Demons

LEG 4 - Luke Jackson 20+ Disposals

Jackson was enormous in Round 1 and looks set for a breakout season in an expanded role.

With Hayden Young out, his importance increases even further. He attended 56% of ruck contests and 65% of centre bounces, even with Sean Darcy in the side.

After collecting 27 disposals last week, Jackson is effectively playing as a big-bodied midfielder rather than a traditional ruck.
