AFL Round 16

Gold Coast Suns vs Richmond Tigers, Marvel Stadium, July 1st, 7.20pm

This game has been chopped and changed three times since it was announced it was being played on the Gold Coast last week. Now it has a final venue of Marvel Stadium which is a big negative for the Suns heading into this week. They got smashed last weekend and will get smashed this weekend again coming up against a Tigers side that has been bashed in the media all week due to the fact they could only kick two goals vs the poorly rated Saints last Friday night. They will kick a cricket score tonight and some questions will be asked about Stuart Dew and if he will be the coach next year. Pray for the Suns tonight they are going to need it. Tigers by 60+

Head 2 Head

Tigers have won the last three games vs the Suns

Best bet
Tigers 40+ $2.25
Tigers -31.5 $1.90

Geelong Cats vs Essendon Bombers, GMHBA, July 2nd 7.50pm

First time these two sides have played in Geelong in 14 matches and it looks like a cracker come Friday night. The Bombers have been in great form, pushing the Demons all the way last Saturday night and if it wasn’t for some iffy free kicks paid, I reckon the Bombers were in with a chance to cause an upset. The Cats were smashed all over the park last weekend against the Lions but I believe they needed that and will be more hungry coming into the back end of the year and could set them up nicely for finals. The Bombers need a big effort from Stringer. He wants the big cash but needs to perform week in week out and didn’t do that last weekend. Cameron and Hawkins will look to open the Bombers youth defenders so look for them to get on top early. I am tipping the Cats in a close one.

Head 2 Head

Cats have won two of the last three vs the Bombers

Best bet
Cats 1-39 $1.90

Melbourne Demons vs GWS Giants, MCG, July 3rd, 1.45pm

Demons are rolling the rock after a strong win against the Bombers last weekend. Most things went their way free kicks and the run of the green and I guess you need that when you are trying to win a flag. The younger Demons Pickett and Rivers are stars and take the game on very hard and fast and they can really expose the Giants this weekend if they get clean ball. They are back at the 'G and Saturday afternoon, looks a day for them to run riot. The Giants, on the other hand, are so hit and miss. They kill teams at home but on the road are very poor. They were poor last weekend losing to the Hawks in a game they should have won. Demons in a big win this weekend.

Head 2 Head

Demons have won two of the last three games vs the Giants

Best bet
Demons 40+ $2.30

Adelaide Crows vs Brisbane Lions, Adelaide Oval, July 3rd 4.35pm

Still no venue on this game with a lockdown in Adelaide happening right now so TBC on the best bet and odds as it could swing both ways. Both teams are in Melbourne so you would say it would be played at a ground like marvel or the MCG. Lions win this wherever this game is played. They looked a force last weekend against the Cats and will take a lot of confidence they can match it with the big boys. Charlie Cameron was on show and was a real hard match up for the Cats. Crows lost to the Blues so that shows where they are at. Lions by 40+

Head 2 Head

Lions have won two of the last three games vs the Crows

Best Bet
Crows 40+ $1.90

Fremantle Dockers vs Carlton Blues, GMHBA, July3rd 7.25pm

Again, this game has moved a few times but has been confirmed to be played in Geelong and that really does help the Dockers try and get a win. Great win last weekend against a Pies side who were coming late in that game, so credit to the Dockers for withstanding that pressure and getting the win. They will welcome back Nat Fyfe this weekend who missed last week with a shoulder injury. Blues had a good gutsy win vs the Crows and need to play more like that if David Teague is going to hold onto his job beyond season 2021. I am tipping a Freo win as they make a late charge towards the finals. If they win this and a few results go there way they can sneak into the 8. Freo by 10+

Head 2 Head

Blues have won the last three games vs the Dockers

Best Bet
Freo win $2.20

Hawthorn Hawks vs Port Adelaide Power, Marvel Stadium, July 3rd 7.40pm

Massive game this Saturday night for both sides with Shaun Burgoyne playing game 400. Massive achievement and no better game to play it then against his old side where he was a flag winner in 2004. Congratulations Shaun. The Hawks are riding a wave of momentum at the moment with a good month of footy against good sides. Big win vs Swans, tight loss to the Bombers and a very good win against the Giants gives them huge confidence going into this round and I believe they are a real chance to knock the Power off on Saturday night. In saying that Power had their best win of season 2021 last weekendt, beating a Swans side who hit the front late in the last quarter to almost snatch a victory. Dixon and Wines stood up and they will need more of that come the end of the season if they want to push on for a finals spot.

Head 2 Head

Hawks have won two of last three games vs the Power

Best Bet
Hawks win $3.20

Sydney Swans vs West Coast Eagles, GMHBA, July 4th 1.10pm

Game was meant to be played in Sydney at the SCG but due to Covid has been moved to Geelong which is a big plus for the Eagles as they haven’t beaten the Swans at the SCG since 1999 but they head to a ground where they haven’t won since 2006, and have an average losing margin of 58 points, so interesting times for the Eagles this weekend. They were smashed last weekend vs the Dogs on their home deck even though they brought in a bunch of stars. The Swans had a tight loss to the Power but will look to bounce back this weekend. Looking forward to the match up of Franklin vs Barrass this weekend. The midfield battle will also be special with Kelly vs Parker and Shuey vs Kennedy. Tipping the Swans by 18+

Head 2 Head

Swans have won two of the last three games vs the Eagles

Best Bet
Swans win $1.85

Collingwood Magpies vs St Kilda Saints, MCG, July 4th 3.20pm

Two teams who are ruled out of finals but can add some pride back to the jumper this weekend. The Saints had a great win against last years flag winners in the Tigers also holding them to two goals which was the best part of the victory. If they play with that spirit and intensity, they will win this game by 10 goals but the thing with the Saints is they are up and down like a toilet seat. The Pies on the other hand were shocking last weekend and didn’t fire a shot vs the Dockers until late in the last quarter where they nearly snatched a victory they shouldn’t have. They need to start well this weekend and against the Saints. And they can. Back at the MCG will help this side. Tipping a pies win.

Head 2 Head

Pies have won the last three games vs the Saints

Best Bet
Pies win $1.77

Western Bulldogs vs North Melbourne, Marvel Stadium July 4th 4.40pm

Danger, danger, danger is what can be said about this game on Sunday afternoon. Thank god this game is at 4.40pm on a Sunday as most will be doing other things then watching this train wreck. Earlier this year the Dogs beat the Kangaroos by 110 points and Josh Bruce kicked 10 goals in a training run game for the Dogs. I think it will be a lot closer than that this time, but I reckon the Dogs win by 80+. They smashed the Eagles last weekend and will do the same this weekend. The Kangaroos did have a good win last weekend vs the Suns but they will need a miracle to beat the Dogs come Sunday. Dogs win this easy.

Head 2 Head

Dogs have won two of the last three games vs the Kangaroos

Best Bet
Dogs 40+ $1.52
