AFL Round 3 Betting Preview and Tips

Adelaide Crows vs Geelong Cats

April 4th (Thursday 7.50pm) Adelaide Oval

Great way to start a weekend of footy with two teams that had outstanding victories last week against top opposition. The Crows smashed the Swans in the contest and their field kicking was elite. They bullied the Swans at their home ground which is no easy task. Matt Crouch and Brad Crouch had a field day in the midfield. The Cats on the other hand smashed the Demons in Geelong. Led by Dangerfield, Selwood and Kelly they suffocated the Demons and never looked like losing. They are in good form as well beating the Pies in round 1. Tim Kelly adds polish to their side and is now being targeted by opposition taggers which is allowing Dangerfield and Selwood to get off the chain. This game will be a tough contest and that is reflected in the $1.90 pick them market. I am tipping the Cats they are in sensational form and I think their midfield will be to tough to control on a big Adelaide Oval. Look for Dangerfield to have a big game against his old side.

Head to Head

Adelaide have won the last 3 games vs the Cats

Best Bet

Cats $1.90

Cats 1-39 $2.45

Melbourne Demons vs Essendon Bombers

April 5th (Friday 7.50pm) MCG

Two teams everyone predicted to make the top 6 haven’t yet won a game in season 2019. The Bombers lost to St Kilda last week by 10 points in a lack luster performance. The Demons on the other hand were smashed vs the Cats in Geelong last week. I see this game being a tight contest early with not many goals. The Bombers have the players to match the Demons and with Steven May out with a groin injury I believe their forwards can cause some havoc for the Demons defence. Both coaches are under pressure but John Worsfold sides don’t stay down for long.

Head to Head

Adelaide have won the last 3 games vs the Cats

Best Bet

Bombers win $2.50

Bombers +12.5 $1.90

Carlton Blues vs Sydney Swans

April 6th (Saturday 1.45pm) Marvel Stadium

Again two teams that have yet to register a win in season 2019 but let’s face it these teams are totally different. The Swans pushed the Crows last week and with a few umpiring decisions going their way I believe the game would have been a lot closer. Lance Franklin has found his mojo and could be the difference in this game. Expect him to get a lot of supply from his midfield. The Blues on the other hand pushed the Power in Adelaide but the home side got the chocolates in a game they were expected to win. Game will be close for a half but the Swans experience will win out.

Best Bet

Swans win $1.50

Swans +12.5 $1.90

GWS Giants vs Richmond Tigers

April 6th (Saturday 4.35pm) Skoda Stadium

Is it panic stations at tiger land yet? Last week vs the Pies they were smashed by the Pies forwards who ran wild. Alex Rance is a big out but the Tigers need more from their other defenders in Astbury and Grimes. Grimes will miss this week with a silly off the ball incident in the lat qtr vs the Pies. The Giants on the other hand were competitive vs the Eagles last week for a half and then were run off their feet. Josh Kelly comes back in this week and boy do they need him. This will free up Cognilo and allow him to push forward to kick goals. I am tipping a Giants win they match up well vs the Tigers and their younger players will be to quick for the Tigers.

Best Bet

Giants 1-39 $2.20

Brisbane Lions vs Port Adelaide Power

April 6th (Saturday 7.25pm) Gabba

The Brisbane Lions look really good and I have them in my updated top 8. Their run and carry can’t be matched and they don’t look out of placed coming up against the bigger sides now. The come from behind win vs the Kangaroos was very impressive. Power as well look like they are pushing for a top 8 position as well after dusting off Carlton is a competitive game. The Lions will be too strong up in Brisbane this weekend. They play the ground so well and I expect the game to be very similar to the one in round 1 vs the Eagles where the ball was very slippery due to the humidity.

Best Bet

Brisbane 1-39 $2.25

Collingwood Magpies vs West Coast Eagles

April 6th (Saturday 7.25pm) MCG

Grand Final rematch and doesn’t it look a cracker both teams losing in round 1 but then both came out last week and destroyed their opposition last week. The Pies smashed the Tigers all over the park led by Jordan De Goey who is turning into one of the best players in the game with his versatility and footy smarts. The Eagles big forwards look like posing a danger to the smallish Collingwood back line. The Eagles welcome back Andrew Gaff who missed last year’s GF through suspension. I expect a close game but the Pies will be too strong late for the Eagles.

Best Bet

Pies -16.5 $1.90

Pies 1-39 $2.20

Western Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Suns

April 7th (Sunday 1.20pm) Marvel Stadium

Bulldogs come from behind win last week vs the Hawks reminded me of their 2016 season when they won the flag. The Suns also had a come from behind win vs the Dockers last week. Not too much I can say about this game other than the Dogs will win and the Dogs will win well.

Best bet

Dogs +40 $2.25

Hawthorn Hawks vs North Melbourne Kangaroos

April 7th (Sunday 3.20pm) MCG

This one will be a tough contest on Sunday vs these sides. There has always been a bit in these Hawks vs Roos game and I expect the same on Sunday. Chad Wingard makes his Hawks debut and he is an absolute star and a match winner when he is on. Roos on the other hand let slip a 25 point lead last week vs the Lions and their coach would not of been impressed with that. It will be tight early and plenty of niggle but the Hawks will be too strong at the MCG

Best Bet

Hawks -13.5 $1.90

Fremantle Dockers vs St Kilda Saints

April 7th (Sunday 5.20pm) Optus Stadium

Everyone thinks this is a walk in the park for the Dockers. I disagree and I’m tipping a Saints win. The were brilliant last week vs the Bombers and have found some form with their players Jack Billings is one of them. The Dockers on the other hand were woeful vs the Suns and Ross Lyon men are going to be under more pressure when they lose this weekend. Saints run and tall forwards will be to strong for the Dockers. UPSET time.

Best Bet

Saints win $3.05

Saints +19.5 $1.90
