2024 AFL Round 13 Betting Predictions
Round 13 of the AFL season should be a beauty. Sunday afternoon is headlined by the Swans hosting the Cats and the Blues take on the Bombers at the G on Sunday night. Then, the Pies and Dees will be desperate for a win in the traditional Monday clash. Let's get into it!
Adelaide Crows (14th) vs Richmond Tigers (17th)
The Adelaide Crows are really feeling the heat as their chances of making the finals are slipping away. They're pretty much in a do-or-die situation against a banged-up Richmond team. If they don't win this one, their season is pretty much toast, especially with the Swans up next followed by a bye.
As for Richmond, they've been fighting tooth and nail lately despite having a bunch of players on the injury list. They've shown they can perform on the road, so they're not without hope as they face the struggling Crows, even if it's on Adelaide's turf.
The Under has saluted in 6 of the last 7 games involving the Crows and I think both of these sides have struggled to score this season.
Stadium Record
Adelaide are 4-5 in their last 9 games at this venue. Richmond are 2-4 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
The Tigers are 3-2 against the Crows in the last 5 meetings.
Best Bet
Western Bulldogs (11th) vs Brisbane Lions (13th)
The Bulldogs are on a bit of a roll lately, winning three out of their last four games. They've been dealing with injuries left and right, but it hasn't stopped them from putting up some impressive performances. They took down the Magpies and Giants, and gave the Swans a run for their money. If they can snag a couple more wins against the Lions and the Dockers next week, they'll be sitting pretty before their bye.
Brisbane has had a chance to take a breather and figure out how to turn their season around after a rocky start. They're kicking off this week against the Dogs and really need a win. If they can pull it off on the road Friday night and then again against the Saints at home, they might be able to get back on track. But time's running out for them to live up to their reputation and get back into the finals race.
The Over is 6-1 in the Doggies last 7 games and I think both sides can kick a score.
Stadium Record
The Bulldogs are 5-5 in their last 10 games at this venue. Brisbane are 7-2 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
Since 2018, the Bulldogs are 5-3 against the Lions.
Best Bet
Hawthorn Hawks (12th) vs GWS Giants (7th)
Hawthorn has been on a wild ride this season, shaking off a rough 0-5 start to now being in the mix for finals. They've been on fire lately, winning four out of their last five games. Now they're gearing up to take on the Giants at their second home in Tasmania, where they've had some good luck lately, winning their last three matches there, including a close one against the Saints earlier this year.
The Giants are coming off a big win against Geelong right before their bye week. They've been dealing with a bunch of injuries, but they can't afford to let up, especially with tough matchups against top-four teams like Port Adelaide and Sydney coming up. Every game counts for them, and they'll need to bring their A-game against Hawthorn.
The Under has a perfect 7-0 under record at this venue and I think the Hawks can handle the Giants forward line.
Stadium Record
Hawthorn are 4-0 at this venue since 2021. GWS has a 1-1 (1 draw) record in their history.
Head to Head Record
In the last 8, the Giants are 5-3 against the Hawks.
Best Bet
West Coast Eagles (16th) vs North Melbourne Kangaroos (18th)
West Coast's once impenetrable home ground advantage is starting to show some cracks, with a 3-3 record there this season. Despite stumbling in four of their last five games, the Eagles are still expected to handle the winless Roos with ease and head into their bye week with a boost.
North Melbourne probably circled this game on their calendar at the beginning of the season as a "must-win." With an extra week to prep thanks to the bye, the Kangaroos are hoping to turn things around. They've been consistent in scoring throughout the season, but now they need to translate that into more than just promising signs and start racking up some wins.
I think the Eagles get the win at home but both sides aren't in great form so I prefer the Under.
Stadium Record
West Coast are 4-6 in their last 10 games at this venue. North Melbourne are 2-3 in their last 5 games at this venue.
Head to Head Record
In the last 5 meetings, the head to head is squared at 2-2 (1 draw).
Best Bet
St Kilda Saints (15th) vs Gold Coast Suns (8th)
St Kilda finally got back on track with a win against West Coast, ending a rough three-game losing streak. But they can't afford to slip up now. Their upcoming match against the Suns will be a real test of their finals aspirations, especially considering how different the Suns play away from home.
Gold Coast is dominating at home, securing their seventh win there by taking down Essendon. However, they still need to prove they can bring that same energy on the road. So far, they haven't managed a win away from their home turf, but they did break a long losing streak against the Saints last year. It's all about consistency for the Suns.
The Over is 4-0 in the Suns last 4 games and conditions under the roof should be good for a high scoring affair.
Stadium Record
St Kilda are 5-5 in their last 10 games at this venue. Gold Coast are 3-7 in their last 10 games at this venue.
Head to Head Record
The Saints are 4-1 against the Suns in the last 5.
Best Bet
Sydney Swans (1st) vs Geelong Cats (3rd)
Sydney didn't really want a break with their second bye of the season, especially after racking up seven wins in a row. But let's be real, it's hard to imagine them not picking up where they left off. They've been looking like the real deal all season, especially at home where they've been smashing it, winning all five matches by an average of 37 points.
Geelong had to work hard to break their losing streak against Richmond, but they managed it. Now they're facing a tougher challenge against Sydney. They're sitting in third place, but a win here could bring them within striking distance of the Swans and give them a massive confidence boost before their bye week. It's a big game for the Cats.
The home team is 6-0 ATS and I think Geelong have been struggling a bit lately. So with the Swans off the bye and at home, they should get the job done.
Stadium Record
Sydney are 8-1 in their last 9 games at the SCG. Geelong are 0-2 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
The Saints are 4-1 against the Suns in the last 5.
Best Bet
Essendon Bombers (2nd) vs Carlton Blues (5th)
Essendon's winning streak came to an end at seven games with a tough loss against Gold Coast last week. But they've got a chance to prove themselves against the Blues, and if they pull off a win, they'll solidify their spot in the top four before their bye.
Carlton is hot on Essendon's heels, just two points behind them in second place. They've been on fire lately, taking down some serious competition like Melbourne, Gold Coast, and Port Adelaide in their last four matches. The Blues are breaking old curses left and right, and now they're looking poised to crack into the top four before their bye week. It's shaping up to be a showdown.
Should be a great game between these two rivals and I like the chances of a low scoring game on Sunday night. The Under is 6-0 in the Blues last 6 at the MCG too.
Stadium Record
Essendon are 4-5 (1 draw) in their last 10 games at this venue. Carlton are 8-2 in their last 10 games at the MCG.
Head to Head Record
In the last 7, the Blues are 4-2 (1 draw) against the Bombers.
Best Bet
Collingwood Magpies (9th) vs Melbourne Demons (10th)
Collingwood's luck finally ran out, and injuries played a big part in their first loss since round two. They might not have a ton of players to call up, but they're feeling pretty good about their chances against a down-in-the-dumps Demons team. They've had Melbourne's number in recent matchups, winning eight out of the last ten, including a nail-biter in last year's qualifying final.
Melbourne is in no mood for parties after getting absolutely trounced by Fremantle last week, losing by a whopping 92 points. It was a rough one for Simon Goodwin's crew, but they're hoping to bounce back fast against a depleted Collingwood squad. After this game, they've got a matchup with the Roos, so they're eager to turn things around quickly.
The Dees were embarrassed last week but I think they bounce back on Monday. They've won their last 7 games at the MCG and the Pies have been inconsistent all season.
Stadium Record
Collingwood are 7-2 (1 draw) in their last 10 games at this venue. Melbourne are 6-4 in their last 10 games at this venue.
Head to Head Record
In the last 10, the Blues are 4-2 (1 draw) against the Bombers.
