2023 AFL Round 7 Betting Predictions
Round 7 starts with the high-flying Saints looking to continue their winning ways against the in-form Power on Friday night footy at Marvel.
St Kilda Saints (1st) vs Port Adelaide Power (7th)
The Saints are now atop the ladder after an impressive 5-1 start to the season. They contained the Blues last week, conceding just 60 pts in the 22 pt victory. They're now averaging an easily league-best 8.2 goals against.
The Power got the job done as expected against the Eagles 108-69 and have now won 3 games on the trot. Finlayson was one of the standouts with 5 goals and the form of Rozee continued in the midfield. They now head to Melbourne with a lot of confidence.
St Kilda have an excellent defensive structure and the Under is a great bet with them involved at the moment. The Under is also 7-1 in their last 8 at Marvel.
Stadium Record
St Kilda are 12-13 at Docklands since 2021. Port Adelaide are 7-0 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
The Power are 5-1 against the Saints since 2018.
Best Bet
Brisbane Lions (6th) vs Fremantle Dockers (13th)
The Lions outlasted the Giants in Canberra for their 3rd straight victory. Charlie Cameron comes off 7 goals and has kicked 17 goals in this winning streak. They've won both games at the Gabba in 2023 against the Pies/Dees so they'll be favourites to beat Freo.
The Dockers strange season continued on Friday night as they were smashed by the Dogs 118-69. It won't get any easier with a trip to Brisbane against the in-form Lions.
Brisbane's last 3 games have been high scoring and the Over is 11-1 at the Gabba in day conditions.
Stadium Record
Brisbane are 8-2 in their last 10 games at the Gabba. Fremantle are 0-3 at this venue since 2017.
Head to Head Record
Since 2018, Lions are 4-2 against the Dockers
Best Bet
Sydney Swans (10th) vs GWS Giants (12th)
The Swans were simply thrashed by the Cats in Geelong by 93 points on Saturday night. Injuries to their backline have hurt them at the moment as they couldn't stop Cameron/Hawkins. However, they do have a good record against the Giants and should be confident of bouncing back.
The Giants are just 1-4 in their last 5 games and come off a tough loss against the Lions in Canberra. They'll be fired up for the derby but they're a hard team to predict at the moment.
There's plenty of rain predicted for Sydney on Saturday which should help the Under. It's also 5-1 in this matchup.
Stadium Record
Sydney are 9-1 in their last 10 games at this venue. GWS are 4-6 at the SCG in their history.
Head to Head Record
In the last 10 meetings, the head-to-head is squared at 5-5.
Best Bet
Western Bulldogs (11th) vs Hawthorn Hawks (18th)
The Dogs will be looking to build on a fantastic win over the Dockers in Perth on Friday night. Marcus Bontempelli was outstanding for the Dogs in the 49-point victory and he'll bring up 200 games this weekend. They will miss Libba with a concussion though.
The Hawks suffered another close loss in Round 6 as they went down against the Crows 79-76. They've now lost their last 2 by under a kick so for a young side, they're building nicely for the future.
The Bont brings up 200 games and comes off 31 touches against the Dockers. This is another soft matchup, Libba is out and he should be fired up in his milestone match. 25+ disposals is the safe bet but 30+ offers excellent value.
Stadium Record
Since 2021, the Bulldogs have a 15-8 record at this venue. Hawthorn are 2-6 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
In the last 5 meetings, the Bulldogs hold a 4-1 record against the Hawks.
Best Bet
Marcus Bontempelli 30+ Disposals = $2.90
Melbourne Demons (3rd) vs North Melbourne Kangaroos (15th)
The Dees started slowly against the Tigers on Monday night but finished strongly in the 96-78 victory. They also got Max Gawn back from injury and they're leading the league in goals per game (16). That will likely continue against one of the worst backlines in the AFL.
The Roos will be looking to break a 4-game losing streak but this will be another tough challenge. They're coming off a poor 43-point loss on the Gold Coast and it probably won't get better against the Dees.
Melbourne's forward line found its mojo against the Tigers in the end and this is a much easier matchup. North are just 1-5 ATS at the G. Dees to cover.
Stadium Record
Melbourne are 17-8 at the MCG since 2021. North Melbourne are 0-3 at this venue since 2021.
Head to Head Record
The Demons are 4-1 against the Kangaroos since 2018.
Best Bet
West Coast Eagles (17th) vs Carlton Blues (8th)
The Eagles are on a 4-game losing streak but have had a tough stretch with injuries/opponents. There's a lot of experience on the injury list so it's all about getting games into their youth at the moment.
The Blues will be looking to respond after 2 disappointing losses against the Crows/Saints. In both games, they've kicked an average of 61 pts. But this should be a favourable matchup against the Eagles who've given up the most goals in the AFL this season.
Carlton's forward line of McKay/Curnow should return to form against a struggling and injured Eagles lineup.
Stadium Record
West Coast are 2-8 in their last 10 games at this venue. Carlton are 3-4 at Optus in their history.
Head to Head Record
The Eagles are 4-1 against the Blues in the last 5.
Best Bet
Essendon Bombers (4th) vs Geelong Cats (9th)
The Bombers let a lead slip away against the Pies on Anzac Day and will be disappointed. However, they get their skipper Zach Merrett back from suspension for this crucial clash against the Cats.
The Cats are officially back after dismantling the Swans in Geelong on Saturday night by almost 100 pts. Hawkins and Cameron both kicked 5. They've now won 3 on the trot after starting the year 0-3.
Tough for the Bombers here. They're on a short week and the Cats are flying again. Geelong has also easily won the last 4 meetings. Hard to back against the Cats.
Stadium Record
Essendon are 2-8 in their last 10 games at the MCG. Geelong are 8-2 in their last 10 games at this venue.
Head to Head Record
In the last 5 meetings, the Cats have won 4 games against the Bombers.
Best Bet
Richmond Tigers (16th) vs Gold Coast Suns (14th)
The Tigers are coming off 4 straight defeats but did show some fight against the Dees on Monday night. But after winning just 1 game this year, this is a must-win game for the Tigers and their top 8 hopes.
The Suns got a much-needed win over the Roos on Sunday night 97-54. However, a knee injury to Touk Miller soured the victory and it's a big blow for their midfield.
Both sides are struggling at the moment but this should be a free-flowing / high-scoring game. The Over has an excellent 14-0 record when the Tigers play in the day.
Stadium Record
Richmond are 2-4 at this venue since 2021. Gold Coast are 3-7 in their last 10 games at Docklands.
Head to Head Record
The Tigers are 3-2 against the Suns since 2018.
Best Bet
Adelaide Crows (5th) vs Collingwood Magpies (2nd)
The Crows rallied to beat the Hawks last week for their 4th straight win. So they will return home with a lot of confidence and this matchup will be a huge test of their form at the moment.
The Pies outlasted the Bombers on Anzac Day with another brilliant 4th quarter comeback. Nick Daicos took home the Anzac Day medal with another impressive 40 disposal / 2 goal performance. He's now the Brownlow favourite and is averaging 36.7 touches per game.
This should be a cracker to finish the round and I do like the Crows in what could be a close one. The Pies are coming off a short week and could be a bit underdone. The Crows are tough to beat at home and could give them a scare if they kick straight.
Stadium Record
Adelaide are 6-4 in their last 10 games at the Adelaide Oval. Collingwood are 3-0 at the Adelaide Oval since 2021.
Head to Head Record
The Magpies are 6-0 against the Crows since 2018.
