2022 AFL Round 9 Betting Predictions

Round 9 features the Pies and Dogs fighting for a spot in the 8, a top 8 battle between the Saints and Cats. Meanwhile, the Dees head back to Perth for the first time since winning the GF in 2021.

Collingwood Magpies (9th) vs Western Bulldogs (10th)

The Pies are looking to bounce back on Friday night after they were outplayed by the Tigers on Saturday in the 113-86 defeat. Their backline is struggling to contain key forwards and the injury Roughhead is a big reason why. They're also missing Grundy in the ruck and Jamie Elliott is still a few aways from returning. However, Lipinski comes off 30 disposals and will be eager to play well against his former side.

The Bulldogs are also coming off a tough loss as they went down to the Power 86-69 last Friday night. However, they were missing The Bont with a late injury but he should ne back to face the Pies. Their injury list isn't getting any better as Vandermeer did his hammy and Tim O'Brien is now out for a few weeks. But Aaron Naughton comes off 4 goals and should enjoy this matchup against the Pies undermanned backline.

The underdog is 8-1 ATS in the Pies last 9 games at Marvel and the Dogs aren't in great form at the moment. Pies to cover.

Stadium Record

Collingwood are 2-3 at this venue in their last 5. The Dogs are 3-1 at Marvel this season.

Head to Head Record

The Magpies are 3-0-2 against the Bulldogs in the last 5 meetings.

Best Bet

Collingwood +7.5 = $1.90

Hawthorn Hawks (12th) vs Richmond Tigers (8th)

The Hawks are looking to end a 3 game losing streak and come off a 27 point loss against the Bombers. However, they should be boosted by the return of Wingard for his 200th AFL game. Mitch Lewis could also return in the forward line.

The Tigers are back in the top 8 after 2 straight wins and Dusty Martin is back on the field. He returned against the Pies in the 27 point win. Tom Lynch continued his excellent form with 6 goals and should continue the trend against the Hawks.

Richmond are tough to beat at the MCG and have Dusty Martin back in the lineup. Tigers by 1-39 looks the best value.

Stadium Record

Hawthorn are 2-3 at the MCG this season. Richmond has won 3 of their last 4 at the MCG.

Head to Head Record

The Tigers have won 3 of the last 5 matchups.

Best Bet

Richmond 1-39 = $2.25

North Melbourne Kangaroos (17th) vs Port Adelaide Power (11th)

The Roos are coming off scoring just 24 points in another massive loss against the Dockers on Friday night. They'll get Larkey back from suspension and that should boost their forward line structure.

The Power's resurgence continued as they beat the Bulldogs on Friday night and they've now won 3 on the trot. Despite only playing 1 AFL game at this venue, they should be confident of a 4th straight win as they meet the struggling Roos.

Port are back in form and they're 9-0 ATS in their last 9 interstate games.

Stadium Record

The Roos are 1-3 at this venue in their last 4. The Power have played at this venue just once and lost in 2013.

Head to Head Record

The Roos have a good record against Port with 3 wins in the last 5.

Best Bet

Port Adelaide -34.5 = $1.90

St Kilda Saints (7th) vs Geelong Cats (5th)

The Saints are coming off back to back losses against the Dees and Power. It won't get any easier against the Cats. However, St Kilda has played well against the Cats recently with 5 straight wins. Their injury list is looking good and Dan Butler is a chance to return after being subbed out last week.

Geelong thrashed the Giants on Saturday 88-35 and moved up to 5th on the ladder. Jeremy Cameron enjoyed the clash against his former side as he kicked 5. They'll get Selwood back this week and they could also get Higgins and Stanley back as well.

Geelong have the wood over the Saints and their forward line should be able to outscore St Kilda's.

Stadium Record

St Kilda has won 3 of their last 4 at Marvel. Geelong has won 7 of their last 9 at this venue.

Head to Head Record

The Cats are 5-0 against the Saints since 2018.

Best Bet

Geelong -4.5 = $1.90

Sydney Swans (6th) vs Essendon Bombers (16th)

The Swans have lost back to back games at the SCG after going down against the Lions and Suns. Lance Franklin had a dirty day against the Suns with 5 frees against but he does love playing the Bombers. Their ruck stocks should be boosted by the return of Tom Hickey for this clash as well.

The Bombers come off a huge comeback win over the Hawks on Saturday night. Peter Wright was the key up forward with 6 goals and Parish was excellent in the midfield with 32 touches. They'll be looking to overturn a poor record in Sydney on Saturday night.

Sydney are struggling to kick a winning score at the SCG and the Bombers usually give them a tight contest. Essendon to cover.

Stadium Record

Sydney are 2-2 at the SCG this season. Essendon has lost 8 of their last 9 at this venue.

Head to Head Record

Essendon has won 3 of the last 5 meetings.

Best Bet

Essendon +23.5 = $1.85

Adelaide Crows (14th) vs Brisbane Lions (3rd)

The Crows were outplayed by the Blues in Melbourne on Sunday night as they struggled to stop the likes of Cripps and Curnow. They'll enjoy being back at home but the Lions will be a tough test. Ben Keays will take on his former side as the Crows skipper.

The Lions are looking for a 5th straight win as they travel to Adelaide. As expected, they smashed the Eagles last week and will be looking to improve their poor win-loss record at the Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane beat the Crows by 52 pts in the last meeting and should easily beat the Crows on Saturday night as well.

Stadium Record

Adelaide are 2-2 at home this season. Brisbane have a poor 2-7 record at this venue.

Head to Head Record

Brisbane are 3-2 against Adelaide.

Best Bet

Brisbane Lions -28.5 = $1.85

Gold Coast Suns (13th) vs Fremantle Dockers (2nd)

The Suns continued their good form at the SCG last week as they upset the Swans and ended a 3 game losing streak. Swallow, Rankine and Weller were among the best on ground for the Suns. They'll look to continue the momentum against the in-form Dockers.

Freo come off an easy win over the Kangaroos on Friday night and sit nicely on the ladder in 2nd. However, they'll likely be without Switkowski in the forward line for this clash. But Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan should be right to play after picking up injuries in last week's win.

The wet weather on the Gold Coast should see a scrappy affair between these two teams and we like the chances of the Under. The Under is also 7-0 involving the Dockers.

Stadium Record

Gold Coast have lost 6 of their last 7 at home. Fremantle are 3-2 at this venue in their last 5.

Head to Head Record

The Suns hold a 3-2 record against the Dockers.

Best Bet

Under 146.5 = $1.90

Greater Western Sydney Giants (15th) vs Carlton Blues (4th)

The Giants were no match for the Cats last Saturday and they now sit 15th on the ladder. However, they do have a good record at this venue and will need to show something against the in-form Blues.

The Blues are flying after 3 wins in their last 4 and they sit 4th on the ladder. Patty Cripps had enough brilliant game last Sunday and Charlie Curnow kicked 6 as they thrashed the Crows at Marvel. However, Harry McKay injured his knee and will be out for 6 weeks.

The Blues will be aware of their poor interstate record and they come into this matchup with much better form compared to the inconsistent Giants. Carlton look good value as an underdog.

Stadium Record

GWS love playing at this venue as they've won their last 4. Carlton are yet to win at this venue in 5 attempts.

Head to Head Record

Carlton has won 3 of the last 5 matchups.

Best Bet

Carlton Win = $2.10

West Coast Eagles (18th) vs Melbourne Demons (1st)

The Eagles dreadful season continued on the weekend as they went down to the Lions by 75 pts. But Waterman and Redden played well for the beaten Eagles. They could get Yeo back for this clash but Shuey is another week away with a hamstring injury.

The Dees are 8-0 to start the season and easily accounted for the Saints at the MCG last Sunday. They'll enjoy returning to Perth, the venue where they won the Grand Final last season. Max Gawn does have a knee injury and the Dees could opt to rest him.

We like Western Australian born Kysaiah Pickett to kick 2+ goals against the woeful Eagles. He kicked 3 last week against the Saints and the Eagles gave up 4 goals to Charlie Cameron, who's a similar type of player.

Stadium Record

West Coast are 0-6 at Optus Stadium. The Dees are 3-0 at this venue and won the Grand Final in Perth last year.

Head to Head Record

Melbourne hold a 3-2 record in the last 5 clashes.

Best Bet

Kysaiah Pickett 2+ goals = $1.95
