AFL - 2019 Premiership Winner

We'll look at the top six favourites in the betting markets.

Collingwood ($6.50)

No one had the Pies making the finals let alone making the Grand Final last year. They had injuries left, right and centre last year and to key players. Add a healthy list and the inclusion of Dayne Beams I see the pies as the favourites for the 2019 Premiership. They won't lose many games at the MCG this year as their run and carry is unstoppable. If De Goey goes to another level they will be very hard to beat anywhere this year.

West Coast Eagles ($8)

Like Collingwood, no one had the Eagles making the finals but once they went 10-1 last season everyone woke up and realised this team was near unbeatable at Optus Stadium. Benefits for the Eagles is that they get 12 games at Optus Stadium and I can't see them losing many there. Very tough draw to start off 2019 with trips to Brisbane, then host the Giants who will be no easy beats then travel to the MCG to face the Pies in a Grand Final rematch. If they can get through those I see them on track for their premiership defence. Gaff, Sheppard and Nic Naitanui to come back are only positives for the Eagles in 2019.

Richmond Tigers ($4.75)

Form side all of last year but injuries caught up with the Tigers when it mattered. Dustin Martin is a big influence to this side and he can take them to another top 4 finish if he stays injury free. Tigers have added Tom Lynch who with good delivery should kick 60+ goals. There is an injury cloud under his name and might not start the year but I see that as no problem as the Tigers have a lot of other capable forwards to kick goals.

Melbourne ($7.50)

Melbourne in my eyes have recruited the best over the off season with gaining Steven May from the Gold Coast who is a leader and a solid defender who is capable of going forward and back. Dees will be out to make up for a disappointing end to their 2018 season being belted by the Eagles in Perth but that could inspire the Dees to bigger and better things in season 2019. Expect their MCG games this year to be packed out with red and blue as their supports come out to support a team that is a genuine threat.

Sydney Swans ($15)

People have been saying the Swans are done and they won't be a threat, I disagree and that is because of two points. 1 is the SCG is a fortress for them and they play the big wings better then another like the Eagles they play 12 games there this year and I can't see them losing many games at home. Point 2 is Lance Franklin and the Swans midfield. He can single handily carry the Swans over in tight games like he did last year. With good support from his mids Lance is in for a big year. From all reports he is fit and firing so will be a great sight to see Buddy light up the SCG. DO NOT WRITE THE SWANS OFF.

Hawthorn ($17)

The Hawks in my eyes should never be written off and they have recruited very well by gaining Tom Scully and Chad Wingard. Scully is a gut runner and the MCG is his bread and butter for link up and run play that the Hawks love to play. Chad Wingard was a surprise move to the Hawks this year as he is a genuine match winner. Some say he fell out with Port, they were mad to trade him and I think with a big pre season he will thrive at the Hawks. Sam Mitchell back at the Hawks in a midfield coaching role, he changed the way the Eagles played maybe he can do the same for the Hawks.

Prediction

It is hard to split the Pies, Tigers and Eagles but I am leaning towards the Pies. A favourable draw and a health list I can't see them losing many games at the MCG. Eagles have to travel every second week and a much harder draw for 2019 will make it tough.

Collingwood $6.50

AFL – 2018 Minor Premiership Winner

Picking the Pies to take out the minor Premiership again it comes down to the MCG and not the travel factor. Pencil in 9-11 home wins and they are also a force when they travel. Dayne Beams leading their midfield is frightening.

Collingwood $8

AFL – To Make Grand Final

Going for a value bet here to make the Grand Final as you need luck and a favourable draw. The Demons have been blessed with a nice draw and with a bit of luck they can make the Grand Final for season 2019. If the Melbourne fans get behind this side I see them pushing deep into September. They have a rock solid defence as well with Lever, May and Mcdonald and the class of Jordan Lewis.

Melbourne $4.50

AFL – 2019 Top 8

Sydney Swans 12 games at the SCG holds them in a nice position to make the finals. They will pinch a few games away. They will be playing finals footy. Too many good players for the Swans not to make finals.

Swans $1.95

AFL – 2018 Top 4

West Coast Eagles impossible to beat at home and games are won with defence and they have the best in the league with Mcgovern, Hurn and Barrass add in Sheppard and it will be hard for teams to score against the Eagles. Optus Stadium suits their running game so will be in the top 4 by the end of the season.

West Coast $1.75

AFL – 2018 To Miss Top 8

GWS Giants have lost valuable players because of their tight salary cap issue. Two guns and genuine match winners have been lost in Dylan Shiel and Tom Scully throw in their ruck man Rory Lobb and the Giants are already on the back foot. Toby Greene hasn't done a fully preseason and if he goes down early the Giants will struggle. They will not be playing in September footy in season 2019.

Giants - $2

AFL – Most Losses

St Kilda Saints they promise the world but delivery an atlas. Can't see the Saints beating many sides this year and I have them finishing last. Recruited Dan Hannebery who looked slow and no run last year for the Swans. Too many young players in the side to be threatening. Will be a long season again for the Saints.
