2018 AFL Round 15 Preview & Predictions

Richmond Tigers v Sydney Swans

Thursday, June 28 7:20pm, Etihad Stadium

Round 15 begins with the Tigers up against the Swans at Etihad Stadium. This is the top of the ladder clash and could be a Grand Final preview. Both sides are coming off the bye so they should be fresh for the contest. In terms of form, the Swans are ridding a 6 game winning streak and the Tigers are 8-2 in their last 10. The key in this game could be the venue. The Tigers love the MCG but they’re 3-4 at Etihad since 2016. In contrast, the Swans love playing at Etihad with a 14-1 record since 2012. They also match up well with the Tigers having won the last 2 meetings. So I’m tipping they will make a statement in Melbourne with a huge win.

Stadium Record

This season, the Tigers are 1-0 at Etihad Stadium and the Swans are 2-0.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the two teams can't be separated in the head to head with a 6-6 record.

Best Bet

Swans WIN $2.38

Western Bulldogs v Geelong Cats

Friday, June 29 7:50pm, Etihad Stadium

On Friday night, the Bulldogs and Cats meet at Etihad Stadium. The Cats should be confident of victory as they sit 7th on the ladder, compared to the 14th placed Bulldogs. The Cats are 3-2 in their last 5 matches and they had the bye last week. For the Bulldogs, they have lost 5 straight games, including a heartbreaking defeat to the Kangaroos last week. The 2 point loss pretty much ended their season. They also haven’t beaten the Cats in the last 11 meetings and I don’t see that changing. Geelong are aiming for a top 4 finish and they’ll dominate the Dogs at the line.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Bulldogs hold a 3-5 record at Etihad Stadium. Since 2017, the Cats are 4-0 at Etihad Stadium.

Head to Head Record

Since 2010, the Cats are 10-0 against the Bulldogs.

Best Bet

Cats -31.5 $1.90

Carlton Blues v Port Adelaide Power

Saturday, June 30 1:45pm, MCG

Round 15 continues with the Blues up against the Power at the MCG. The Power are 4-1 in their last 5 matches and they recorded a close victory in Round 14 as they beat the Demons by 10 points. For the Blues, they have a 0-5 win-loss record in their last 5 matches. As I expected, they kept with the Pies last week in a gallant 20 point loss. So I don’t mind the Blues at the underdog line again. They’ve won the last 2 meetings in Melbourne against the Power. In terms of the line, the Power are just 9-16 as a favourite in the betting in day games as well.

Stadium Record

This season, the Blues are 1-5 at MCG. This is the first match for the Power at MCG since Round 18, 2017 and they lost that match by 23 points versus the Demons.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the Blues are 6-4 against the Power.

Best Bet

Blues +37.5 $1.90

Adelaide Crows v West Coast Eagles

Saturday, June 30 4:35pm, Adelaide Oval

AFL football continues with the Crows playing the Eagles at the Adelaide Oval in this clash. This is a crucial game for both sides based on their form. Before the bye, the Crows lost 4 straight and have one of the longest injury lists in the AFL. After a stunning start to the season, the Eagles have lost 2 in a row. They’re missing Kennedy and Darling up forward, which has impacted their scoring power. In back to back losses, they’ve been held under 60 points. The Crows scoring has also been a major issue. They’re ranked 11th in the AFL for points scored and haven’t scored 100+ in 6 straight games. So all signs are pointing to a close but low scoring affair, with the unders getting up.

Stadium Record

This season, the Crows hold a 4-3 record at Adelaide Oval. This is the first match for the Eagles at Adelaide Oval since Round 7, 2017 and they won that match by 10 points.

Head to Head Record

The Eagles hold a 7-5 record against the Crows.

Best Bet

Under Total Points TBA

Gold Coast Suns v Collingwood Magpies

Saturday, June 30 7:25pm, Metricon Stadium

In this match, the Suns and Magpies face off at Metricon Stadium on Saturday. The home side is coming off a woeful run as they’ve lost 8 straight games. They’re easily the worst scoring team in the AFL and that won’t help against the Magpies. Collingwood has won 5 straight and finals is beckoning for Nathan Buckley’s men. They’ve also won 3 in a row against the Suns and I can’t see that trend changing. Pies by 40+.

Stadium Record

This season, the Suns hold a 0-2 record at Metricon Stadium. This is the first match for the Magpies at Metricon Stadium since Round 17, 2017, which they won by 15 points against the Suns.

Head to Head Record

Since 2010, the Magpies are 5-2 against the Suns.

Best Bet

Magpies 40+ $2.10

GWS Giants v Hawthorn Hawks

Saturday, June 30 7:25pm, Spotless Stadium

Round 15 continues with the Giants hosting the Hawks at Spotless Stadium on Saturday. Each team is just outside the top eight so the stakes are high. Last time out, the Giants recorded a comfortable victory against the Lions at the Gabba by a score of 109-82. The Hawks recorded a 96-43 win against the Suns at York Park. The last meeting between the two sides was a draw but the Giants have smashed them at Spotless in the last 2 meetings. Obviously, the suspension to Cameron hurts the home side but their form at the moment is looking slightly better compared to the Hawks. They rank 6th for points scored at home and even more impressive is their 58 points per game allowed in home games. Giants to win.

Stadium Record

This season, the Giants are 2-2 at Spotless Stadium. This is the first match for the Hawks at Spotless Stadium since Round 6, 2016, which they lost by 75 points against the Giants.

Head to Head Record

The Hawks hold a 3-2 (1 draw) record against the Giants.

Best Bet

Giants WIN $1.75

Melbourne Demons v St Kilda Saints

Sunday, July 1 1:10pm, MCG

AFL football on Sunday starts with the Demons playing the Saints at the MCG in this clash. The Demons are looking the better side in terms of ladder position as they sit 6th on the ladder, compared to the 16th placed Saints. Last week, the Saints finally ended their losing streak with a thrilling comeback over the Suns. But really, to be down by 31 at 3 quarter time against the Suns isn’t a great sign. The Demons will be hurting after 2 straight losses but they’ve both been against top 8 teams. They beat the Saints by 30 points in Round 1 and I’m predicting their forward line will return to form with a 1-39 win.

Stadium Record

This season, the Demons hold a 2-4 record at MCG. In 2018, the Saints hold a 0-1 record at MCG. Which they lost against the Tigers in Round 10.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the Saints are 10-3 against the Demons.

Best Bet

Demons 1-39 $2.40

Essendon Bombers v North Melbourne Kangaroos

Sunday, July 1 3:20pm, Etihad Stadium

Etihad Stadium plays host to the Bombers and the Kangaroos in AFL footy on Sunday. The Kangaroos are just inside the top 8 and the Bombers are looking to keep their season alive. So this should be a cracking contest. The Bombers are showing great form at the moment with 4 wins in their last 5. They crushed the Eagles in Perth last week as well. The Kangaroos just survived against the Bulldogs so they will need to be better here. They have won 3 of the last 4 against the Bombers at Etihad. But this one is going down to the wire in my opinion. So I’m predicting a game of many lead changes in the wire to wire any result bet.

Stadium Record

This season, the Bombers hold a 2-2 record at Etihad Stadium and the Kangaroos are 4-2.

Head to Head Record

The Kangaroos hold a 7-4 record against the Bombers.

Best Bet

Wire to Wire - Any Other Result $2.05

Fremantle Dockers v Brisbane Lions

Sunday, July 1 4:40pm, Optus Stadium

AFL football concludes with the Dockers playing the Lions at Optus Stadium in this clash. The Dockers are still a chance for finals so this is a key home game. They’re coming off the bye and they should be refreshed to take on the Lions. Brisbane is just 1-9 in their last 10 and just don’t have the power to beat the Dockers. They rank last in the AFL for points allowed in away games and have scored just 69 points on average in those games as well. To make matters worst, they haven’t beaten the Dockers in Perth since 2009. Freo at the line.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Dockers hold a 5-2 record at Optus Stadium. This is the first match for the Lions at Optus Stadium.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the Dockers are 9-1 against the Lions.

Best Bet

Dockers -24.5 $1.90
